That's actually a bad thing. Be better to take off than to spread sickness to others by going in sick.

I thought it was a nice achievement and thought it would be something positive to share with the WP community.

This.

When I told my best friend about this, he was like, "HOW, and more to the point, WHY?" LOL.

I'm not allowed to miss school anymore, I got such a bad attendance record due to combination of bullying and school phobia, that now they'd force me to go even if I got swine flu, bird flu, SARS, and malaria all at once. (My friend says if that happens, sneeze at the bullies.)

Wow, I can't believe her mother let her go to school sick. I have never gone through a school year without missing a day of school due to being sick or being on a trip with my family. Of course I still got school work when we go on a trip, so did my brothers so we wouln't end up having to do all that make up work when we get back. I remember being sick in 4th grade witha flew, my mom went to my school and collected some school assigments for me to do at home. I was sick but was well enough to do school work.

She must have a great immune system... but I think the article makes the mistake of conflating that with a good attitude and work ethic. ;) If I catch the flu, I'm staying home, and that should not reflect negatively upon me (or the opposite).
Of course, she has an excellent work ethic. I hope she keeps her mental health in college, being such a perfectionist.

A girl I went to school with had the same perfect attendance streak, minus the news coverage. I wonder what she thinks of this. :P

though as has been mentioned, its a bad thing if she's going in with a sickness that can be passed to others, its a good thing to show other teens it can be done, and to prove to self can do it with enough effort, maybe she just liked doing school stuff?
It makes a change from the usual of teens truenting and getting drunk.

and though it's not the same,am was the only one to gain a perfect attendance award at SpEd college, with routine, effort and a mental goal of perfect attendance to prove can do some things.
there's nothing bad in having goals, especially with teens in school who are damned and stereotyped for most things.

Why? :?
Skipping Geography...hanging around by the bike sheds, perhaps a nifty drag on your first cigarette...being given a crisp yellow detention slip and having the satisfaction of tearing it up in front of your teacher...that's school...that's LIVING. 8)
