I'm too young to have heard a newscast he did, but he was an icon. He was 92 years old.

At least you spelt his name correctly.

I will never forget the broadcast he did of the young President Kennedy's assassination. His seriousness, and concern, and the sadness in his voice.

I am too young to remember most of his broadcasts but I remember his coverage of the moon landings. Unbounded enthusiasm was the best way to describe it.

Thank you Mr Cronkite, sleep well sir.

I remember his broadcast from Vietnam during the Tet Offensive January or February of 1968
When he called into question our involvement in an "Un-winnable war"

He told us like it was...."And that's the way it is....."

I remember the extended outrage at his being replaced by Dan Rather, coupled with Rather's very large salary.

And that's the way he was! topic

A long, productive, wonderful life. One reason why I have always liked news telecasts.

That link I posted does not work.

Walter Cronkite hosted a news programme Sunday evenings that I was very fond of. This was in the 1960s, and it was called The 20th Century. the opening and closing theme music was very dramatic and difficult to remember and mimic, but I was able to hum it!! :)

I can still hear it in my mind after 40 years of not hearing it. :o

I will find a better link to it and maybe post it in the other forum regarding television and video.

Never knew him, but he seems to be one of the many great Americans we are currently losing. =( Should be a model for every american newscaster to look up to, i think. :o

Rest in peace dude.
