I am not a jigsaw, I am a free man ! Diagnosed under the DSM5 rules with autism spectrum disorder, under DSM4 psychologist said would have been AS (299.80) but I suspect that I am somewhere between 299.80 and 299.00 (Autism) under DSM4.
Ditto that, but that is precisely the reason he DID get arrested. Had nothing to do with his race, or even the mistaken burglary allegation. It was his belligerent attitude that got him in trouble.
I've known many cops in my life and had encounters with a few I did not know, and by and large they are not just decent men, they are dedicated men, who genuinely believe they are called to a mission of public service and protection. But there are a lot of baddies out there, and officers spend every day on the job with the constant knowledge that the next stranger they encounter may attack them without warning, and with deadly force.
Add to that the fact that in any metro area, there's a crime occurring somewhere every minute of the day, and they really don't have time for BS and indignant argument. Watch one episode of COPS to see what kind of crap they put up with on a daily basis. I could never do what they do, I'd be suicidally depressed after one shift, dealing with the dark underbelly of humanity. Gates, like any citizen ought to have had enough respect for the badge to cooperate and understand that they can't just take a stranger's word for anything until the situation has been sorted out.
Yes, some get a little carried away with their authority and jaded from all the ugliness they witness, but if you stow the mouthiness and just answer the questions honestly, whatever the misunderstanding may be, it'll be over with a lot sooner - and you're much more likely to spend the evening in your own home.
But didn't Obama's Beer Summit clear this whole mess up weeks ago? As soon as it was over, the mainstream media just forgot all about the story. It was a miracle!
He was screaming at the police officer and carrying on after being told to stop numerous times. He followed police officer outside into public.
It's just pure stupidity in my opinion. If I did that, I'd be legit afraid I'd get my ass kicked and I'm white. There are some bad hotheaded policemen out there but this isn't one of them.
The police should uphold very high standards in all their dealings with the public that they are paid (by the public) to serve. Their entire basis for any authority whatsoever is that they are using it serve the public, not to victimize an annoying or obnoxious member of the public they have imposed on, not to tie up resources backing their egos up with the authority they have for the sole purpose of serving the public, but just to serve the public. The public good was in no way served by their use of authority in this instance.
That people blame an understandably obnoxious member of the public for simply being belligerent is appalling. It is the police officers who have a duty of good behavior, not citizens annoyed because they cannot get into their home on returning from a trip away, and then find themselves accosted by police who they feel are unfairly accusing them of being a criminal. A lot of people would be obnoxious in this circumstance, and frankly it should be safe to do so with officers charged with upholding the public good.
