While on the road someone asked me a few weeks ago if I had a GPS. I proudly pulled out a custom laminated map and said I have the old fashioned GPS.

The big story today is about Microsoft subsidiary Danger losing all T-Mobile Sidekick customer data from their servers.

Loosing all that data is unforgivable. It shows serious incompetence. Even the most elementary business backs up their data, it is standard procedure.

It is still surprising how many people don't backup their data though. All it takes is a fire / computer theft or hard drive failure and some people have lost their entire photo collections, documents, emails - the lot! All for the sake of cutting a CD/DVD occasionally and keeping an encrypted copy of their data at another location (parents house, friends house etc).

This title reminds me of the Science episode of Brass Eye :)
(British TV program of about 10 years ago)
