It never did. In AA we said the only thing you get with coffee is a wide awake drunk. . .

Yeah, I'm not surprised by these results. Some others may be ;)

I didn't know that people really believed that. Well, I mean, I'm sure some people do, but some people also believe that the moon landing was was fake, and stuff like that.. Surely it's rather obvious to anybody who isn't impaired that if you're drunk, and you drink coffee, that won't suddenly make you sober.. right?

An alcoholic in denial might believe that, just like some believe they drive better when they're drunk..... I actually heard someone say that.

I already knew that. Guess where I learnt that???? From MythBusters! They did an experiment and after drinking coffee drunk they showed no improvement at all at a coordination test. If I remember well the only thing that improved their condition was 10 minutes of running wearing a fire proof suit to sweat a lot. Also putting your head on a barrel full of water at very low temperature didn´t help neither slaping on your face. I know that is not a rigorous scientific experiment but the results were the same.

Funny, why would slapping on your face help

But the fact that researchers and MuthBusters studied it, I think shows that there are people who do believe coffee makes you sober...

If you have way to much coffee to drink and are feeling so jittery that you feel on the verge of a panic attack, some liquor may bring you down a bit. But if you're drunk off you're ass and drink coffee to sober up it will just make you drunk and jittery at the same time. I know from experience.

Coffee's better by itself without having alcohol before.

I actually prefer to consume the caffeine and the alcohol simultaneously, for example Blueberry Tea. Quite nice this time of the year... :drunken:

I've known this for years as well. FWIW, Irish Coffee, (For those who don't know, this is coffee with a shot of Bailey's or Irish Mist) will get you drunk faster than than cold alcoholic beverages.

I would agree, except I can't drink since the meds I take prohibit my intake of any alcoholic beverages - the side effect would be seizures. :(
