It depends... are they smuggling them to adopt them, to make them sex slaves, to harvest their organs and sell them on the black market?

Good question I think this all depends on what their intentions were.

Heck I don't blame anyone for wanting to save people especially children from a country that's in just as bad shape as the death camps were in Europe.

But since I expect the worse from humans, there was probably something in it for them $$$$.

This same issue came up with some French "aid workers" not that long ago. I suspect that it was for adoption, but paid adoptions. The thing is, it is not as if there are no little black children in the US waiting to be adopted.

Long ago I resigned myself to the fact that any time there is a natural disaster there will be people to take advantage. Much like the earlier French scandal, in many cases these children were not orphaned merely separated from their families.

Pathetic really.

Haitian orphans will be the new Coach Bag.

Yuppie Wretch # 1 almost breaks own neck giving self congratulatory pat on their back. "Yep! I've saved this child from a fate worse than death by adopting him/her!"

Yuppie Wretch #2 nods sagely. "You are such a good person!"

Yuppie Wretch #1 beams a giant smile! "I know! And think of the tax write off!"

Does not compute. Why go thousands of miles
to steal a human when one can adopt one here
in the US.?? There are thousands of orphans
in the us who need parents.

Because if you adopt in the US then no big deal... but if you adopt from another country then you get to pretend you are a hero.

Actually I've heard adoption is much harder and more expensive in the U.S. than adopting abroad.

It depends on how the adoption is done as far as expenses. If it is a private adoption there are so many legal issues that being sure the birth parents will not take the child back takes a lot of lawyer's fees. It is more difficult in that there are a lot of home visits and sometimes you have to go through being a foster parent first.

However with all the celebrity adoptions abroad a lot of people simply feel it is the "cool" thing to do.

maybe there are restriction here that not all countries have. for example, can gay couples adopt in the US? (i'm not sure, never checked). is there an income threshold? credit score you must have? age limit? can single parents adopt? and so on. i'm guessing the criteria varies among countries, so someone not fitting the "nuclear capitalist hetero" mode might see a chance to have a family in such a circumstance.

money or no, at the end of the line of this is someone who wants a child. (which doesn't justify *taking* someone else's child, i'm just noting the ultimate motivation, presumably.)

In America the laws vary state to state.

No it doesn't. Kidnapping is kidnapping regardless of motive.

Turns out these kids aren't orphans.

However, their parents WILLINGLY gave them up.

No it doesn't....what?

I don't believe I ever stated that it was ok for them to kidnap or smuggle these kids.

Though I don't think what they did was "right" it would still be good to know what their motivation behind this was.

Looks like at least the leader of the group knew what she was doing, and there were selfish intentions involved most likely.

I bought a "Domestic Trainee" on Ebay, they have failed to deliver, and a complaint will be lodged with Paypal.
