Bovine critters can be slaughtered in a painless fashion. Why can't equine critters be slaughtered in an equally painless fashion? Let's face it. Humans need protein and animal protein is the best source of protein. We can supplement our protein needs with legumes to some extent but they are nowhere as efficiently acquired as with animal sources. Besides, properly prepared, meat tastes rather good.
Just because we eat the flesh of animals there is no reason for us to be cruel to them.

People should think more carefully before they decide to get a horse. I've worked around horses a little, and I can tell you that they're expensive and very burdensome to care for. I certainly can believe that many of these horses are gotten rid of because whoever owned them didn't know what they were getting into, for example, parents who get them as gifts for their children. For having recognized the value of being frugal and to keep my own needs simple, I would never own a horse.
Cattle might be useful for augmenting the capacity of the food chain by eating grass in regions not suitable for water-intensive crops, but horses would be poor candidates for this because their digestion is too inefficient.

I think that some of the deeds of the staff which were described in the film are clearly wrong, I am no expert on how to kill animals in a humane manner but it was clear to me that some of the ways the staff in the plant were behaving was deeply wrong.

I am not a jigsaw, I am a free man ! Diagnosed under the DSM5 rules with autism spectrum disorder, under DSM4 psychologist said would have been AS (299.80) but I suspect that I am somewhere between 299.80 and 299.00 (Autism) under DSM4.
