I also posted the links at the QLD aspie assn.

Les Murray, Australian Poet on the Book Show on Radio National (Australian)
http://www.abc.net.au/rn/bookshow/stories/2006/1634867.htm

Les Murray talks about having Aspergers, and his son having it "expressed more fully" ie autism. He recites poems from his new book.

There is a podcast to download and play.
Download is 18.7MB Total listening time is 41 minutes

The Les Murray bit doesn't start until 3 minutes in.
Les actually starts at around 4 mins and 40 seconds.

Radio National Book show site
http://www.abc.net.au/rn/bookshow/

Highlights
11mins 30 seconds - the Australian place names poem, Australian place names organised into a "dialect history of Australia". I find it interesting that Les knows about Hawker in the ACT but not the much older Hawker in South Australia (http://www.slsa.sa.gov.au/manning/pn/h/h3.htm#hawker).

18'25" what would it be like to be a king...

18'46" "The tune on your mind" ie The asperger poem
...."never toeing a line from the ship of fools."
Universities are full of aspergers... people who will give you a lecture rather than a conversation.
...
Les thinks Aspergers is very common.
21'00" - "the averted" about not making eye contact

21'50" - bullied at school, two teachers helped him by introducing him to poetry.

24'30" - end of the Les Murray bit.

oh that's interesting, I actually find him annoying, I used to get sick of him when he was on tv a lot, usually the ABC, usually with Bob Ellis for some reason. It's good when high profile people 'come out' though, makes it more well known, thanks for the link.
