At the behest of their children the bodies of Ceausescu and his wife were dug up. The kids wanted to make sure their parents were buried where it was said they were buried.

I remember when they were shot dead, Christmas 1989. I heard stories that stakes were driven through their hearts prior to burial. What a nasty pair the were! If anyone deserved death by violent means the Ceausescus surely did.

I remember it too. The clip when he spoke on TV and the whole gathering of people told him to go and f-himself. Then the clip of their bodies.

Power corrupts, Absolute power corrupts absolutely - until people shot you in the head.

Romanian folk legend has it that the historical Vlad the Impaler, also known as Vlad Dracula of Wallachia (the old Romania proper, including Bucharest) would return from death to lead his nation in its hour of greatest need (much like King Arthur or Sir Francis Drake would lead England). Perhaps he, or his spirit, inspired the Romanian people to rise and crush the Ceausescu regime. But, I suppose the Ceasescu children have the right to know that their parents are buried and where they are buried....

Their zeal to pay off the national debt was their downfall. A cautionary tale to be sure.

i remember reading about how, at the time of their execution, him and his evil wife both tried to avoid the bullets by running zigzag-wise around the courtyard before they were cornered and riddled with bullets- then their dead bodies were propped up against a wall and shot some more for the cameras.

and then the people, allowed into the palace to view it afterwards, were amazed to see gold scales to weigh the veal for Mrs. C's pet dogs, while the people of the country (a land rich in natural resources) had been starved to pay off the national debt..>!
