A few years ago:

Quote:
Sophie lost both feet and some fingers and suffered third-degree burns to 85 per cent of her body when she was trapped under a car that crashed into the Roundhouse Childcare Centre at Fairlight, on Sydney's north shore, on December 15, 2003.

Yesterday:
Quote:
Ron Delezio said his daughter was hit by a car on a pedestrian crossing on Frenchs Forest Road in Seaforth, in Sydney's north, at about 4pm (AEST) yesterday.

Sophie, who had been in a stroller at the time, was thrown 18 metres by the impact.

That would really suck to just be walking acrossed the street, then suddenly your entire life is changed in a flash because someone happened to not be watching the road or paying attention. I think it would suck not having any feet, since you need your feet for many functions, especially for me because I enjoy running a lot.

I live in Australia, and know a little more about what happened. The guy who hit her was 80 years-old. Not only that, but that crossing is apparently dangerous. At the bottom of a hill.

Poor girl. First cooked up, then run down. She'll have tales to tell when she's older.

Events such as this one further convince me that God does not exist. Or that if he does exist, he is malevolent and does not care about people, or he lacks the power to do anything useful, and does not deserve to be worshipped.

Now I shall wait for a religious person to disagree with this message, demonstrating how callous and unfeeling they are. A reply such as "God works in mysterious ways" demonstrates lack of sympathy and terrible disrespect for Sophie. Sophie obviously did not deserve what happened to her.

A god that allowed these terrible things to happen to Sophie is a god unworthy of any respect. It truly makes me feel sick to know that people will continue to insist that god exists, even after reading about what happened to Sophie.

I am sorry emc, but I have to disagree. I do not think that praying for Sophie is a nice thing to do. I actually think it is a selfish thing to do. Praying for someone is a selfish thing because it makes yourself feel better while doing nothing for the person. Prayer is a nasty thing, and I actually think it shows disrespect for Sophie to pray for her. Furthermore, praying for her is implicitly condoning gods action or lack of action regarding Sophie, which again is disrespecting Sophie. I apologize for being harsh but I must speak with honesty.

A nicer thing to do than praying would be to send her a card in the mail.

He's right in a way.

Praying for someone if they know you are praying for them may bring them comfort.
Random praying for someone you don't know and will never meet, only brings you comfort.

Then again I am not religious. I belong to the "live and let live" school, though. If emp feels that way, the problem is what exactly? Him not praying won't bug Sophie one way or another.

Poor kid. Heartbreaking, really.
