It's not a case of kids will be kids. Something really needs to be done, about this bullying situation, in both the UK and around the world.

I hope the school and all the parents of the bullies get slapped with a huge lawsuit to the point where all the bullies end up homeless.

It would be nice if all school bullies like that could be dumped on Resolute Island in Canada to fend for themselves against Polar Bears and harsh cold weather or in the gangfilled streets of El Salvador . Let's see how they enjoy being bullied by the infamous MS13 gang in San Salvador.

Why the double standard?

If adults assaulted, harassed or abused someone in the workplace then they would be fired from their job and very likely fined and sent to jail.

So if a gang of 20 year olds beat someone up then they are viscous criminals but if they did it when they were 15 then it is "boys will be boys"

Well, here is a thought. They probably DID do it when they were 15 and got away with it.
So they do the same thing at 20 and end up in the slammer which will destroy their lives.

Society would be doing the bullies a favor by punishing them harder in the first place before they turn into violent adult felons or registered sex offenders.

I agree that allowing school bullies hurts both the victim and the bully since the victim suffers PTSD and low self esteem for a long time which effects his/her ability to compete in the workforce, and the bully ends up in jail for behavior he/she got a hand slapping for in school. Both lives are ruined because such behavior is looked upon too lightly. I was bullied in middle school, though not as bad, but I decided when I got to high school the only way to protect myself was to be a bad @ss. Though I never bullied others, I did not take any crap off others either...but my attitude did get me in alot of trouble in school and involvement in the "wrong crowd" Bullies tell themselves that bullying will make their victim stronger later in life...I guess to pacify their guilt. Another bully said, "I kick him around now cuz I will be working for him when I grow up" That was said by one of the kids I knew growing up. My sister on the other hand, was getting bullied for being overweight, so she told the punk, "The reason you pick on other people is because you have low self esteem and you need to see a shrink" That put the end to that quite quickly. The best thing you can do to a bully is hit them where it hurts emotionally on the first few attemps of bullying. Because most bullies may have a hard exterior but they have a delicate and fragile interior and if you cut them with the truth on the first few tries, they dont want to mess with you cause you hit harder than they can.

I'm not entirely sure who you mean by 'school board'.

The contact details for the headmistress are:
Mrs E Ervine
Springburn Academy
151 Edgefauld Road, Glasgow G21 4JL
Phone: 0141 582 0230
Fax: 0141 582 0231
E-mail [email protected]

The contact details for the Local Education Authority are:
Customer Liaison Unit
Wheatley House
25 Cochrane Street
Glasgow G1 1HL

Contact details for the council of which the LEA is a small part:
Customer Care Team
Glasgow City Council
City Chambers
Glasgow
G2 1DU

And if all else fails, contact details for the education ombudsman:
SPSO
Freepost EH641
Edinburgh
EH3 0BR

I'm not entirely sure what the point is of writing though. This is about a Scottish public service and as much as one might be outraged by it, the public bodies involved are only answerable to the people of Scotland. A letter from the other side of world complaining about something that didn't directly affect the writer is likely to be treated as junk mail.

It is such an awful shame that children are not more accepting. However, this boy, will hopefully be successful in life, and the bullies will be failures. I hope so!

I have heard that Scotland, and the UK in general, has some of the worst bullying around. I hear its way worse than that here in America.

Its the leading cause to school shootings.

I'd have to say horses**t to that. I was thrown down stairs, I had my shirt set on fire, I had abrasive cleaning powder thrown in my face, someone put a razor blade in shoe while I was using the school pool, I got hit in the head with a broken piece of concrete from a broken curb, and stabbed in the hand by pencil because I was moving my desk too much so the bully tried to stab me in the chest but I managed to block the strike with my hand. I still have the graphite residue in my hand you can still see it after 24 years. I could see the schools in the better funded areas being a little safer but in the working poor or ghetto areas its a freaking nightmare. Its the reason I am mistrusting and quick to fight after 22 years since graduating. :x

I don't really understand how this made the child blind. Is the problem that required surgery a result of high-stress?
