Quote:
Imprisoned Chinese dissident Liu Xiaobo was immediately condemned Friday after winning the Nobel Peace Prize. China also accused the Norwegian Nobel Committee of violating its own principles by honoring "a criminal."

Read Story Here!

I'd like to congratulate Liu Xiaobo and I hope he can live outside of prison in a free China some day.

I'd also like to extend a hearty F**K YOU to the Chinese government, may you all die in prison, paying for your crimes against humanity. :D

I was really pleased when I read this in a paper (which I found on a train  I'm such a scab!). This guy deserves it. The Chinese need to get there act together.

i spent some time in china and mongolia. it is not america. not close. most chinese seemed resigned to their gov't
being in complete control over their lives and actions. if you rebel.....well, this is what happens. the prize award is being blocked in every way, even over the internet.

who knows what will happen. i don't see anything changing without civil war. the west probably cannot help. other than the economic problems, the chinese have mucho nuclear weapons. they can afford to lose a few hundred million citizens, the west can't.

i doubt if this brave man will ever get out of prison. too much of a danger to ruling elite.

Apparently Liu's wife was put under house arrest after a brief meeting with her husband.

Despite the Chinese government's best efforts, Liu's wife was able to post a message on twitter stating that Liu would like to dedicate the award to those murdered by the People's Army in Tiananmen Square in 1989...

Fight the power Liu! :salut:

I often think we should cease all trade with China until they quit doing **** like this. I mean it would have to be done in stages, so the economy could have time to adjust, but it would probably not only be the morally right thing to do but the economically right thing to do as well. China is certainly murder on the economy here in the US and I imagine the situation is probably similar in other countries as well.

But people want their stuff made cheap! :p As long as Greed trumps principles of Justice and Freedom, the USA (and the rest of the world who's making profit from manufacturing in China) won't do more than basicly tell China that they're misbehaving. :p

I dont know anything about this fellow who won the peace prize, can someone fill me in?

As far as banning all trade, we cant do that cause china holds the US bonds which makes our money worth something. If they decide not to renew our bonds, we are f@cked.
I wonder whose bright idea it was to sell all our gold to china...some say it was Clinton, others say it was Nixon or Carter.

The US Treasury trades more dollars in a single day than the entire US dollar holdings of the PRC. And if the PRC were to dump dollars, they would have to put their money somewhere, which would probably be Euros, meaning that the ECB would then be pretty aggressively looking for a hedge and would start picking up US dollars. End of the financial world it would not be.

LOL!

Sadly, we are supporting the Chinese government by buying their goods. Our economy would be so much better if we brought the jobs back to the United States and heavily fined corporations for creating jobs in backward, communist governments for profit and gave funding for corporations that created jobs here in the states.

At least if I brought something made by the USA or a Western European country, I would know the worker has rights and has not been abused without any chance to complain.

Congratulations to Liu Xiaobo.

But they do complain.

Especially if something really crappy happens, for instance when schools collapse squishing children into jam, and they find out because some Silly Pig commie (They honestly look like them, square gooey head, fat ears, block shaped head, not an insult to the Chinese context: fat party members ie Mao... or those ones who arrogantly smoke in public restraunts). They riot! It's not mentioned in the news, but they do riot. I've seen them. Soon these so called Dragon Ladies Madam Wu types (from Simpsons), will really understand the TRUE meaning of BDSM. When some angry greifing mother.......

I estimate 10 more years, 15 max, when all these so called economic miracle bubbles burst. ALONG with the 3 Gorges Damn, cooling towers of China's flimsy hastily built nuke plants,

My only regret with the collapse of the so called People's government, is that China will STILL be right were it was in the mud back in the 1950's (in terms of infrastructure, and mentality attitudes), and if there is one thing my people really excell at is making the SAME MISTAKES for over 100 Millenias! But this is ok, since we worship very stubborn animals like Oxens, Pigs, and Rams, in our cosmology. And obstinance, and unwillingness, and having very thick ears, are actually points of pride in these animals. I love how the current Mao Dynasty killed intellectuals, and those who would have made China better an hasten our evolution and recovery. JUST LIKE the ancient Chinese emperors of old, when all the scholars were burried alive ..... I love how China is still prone to gross corruption that has plagued our people for over 100 Millenias. (hyperbolic expression as there are only about 11,000 thousand years, of Chinese history, (well maybe longer if you count the "mythical" proto chinese states. But bahhhhh 11,000 years!?!?!?! !!? and we haven't managed to break this cycle of self destruction. Country rises, becomes bloated and fat, and then it purges with an eating disorder (killing of intellectuals), then it slowly dies..... and reincarnates over and over again.

I'm surprised that the Maoists lasted THIS long, because the average life span of a dynasty is about 200 years, after at least 100 years of implosion and corruption..... Then rebellon, by some Heavenly hero. Ie. Liu Bu, etc etc etc, Mao. Then the country rises and collapses again....

I wonder what the "new" new China will look like? Why can't the Chinese be more like Koreans or Japanese, the polite, and democratic and liberal places in China, instead of this ancient Boorish Bore? Why Can't us Chinese live up to the high standards which the world has of us? Not littering will go a LONG way,

This might sound counterintuitive but the best way to help China become more free and ethical is to help them grow economically. More economic development leads to more citizens joining the middle class. When finding food and shelter are no longer issues for these people, they turn their attention to other endeavors such as demanding social reforms.

Since China has Nuclear Weapons and a vast army of cheap labor it can easily shrug off pressure from the western world to improve it's human rights record. However, as the middle class grows it will approach a tipping point where it cannot stand internal pressure.

Until then we just have to feed the dragon.

That is if the growing middle class in China, eventually produces rare children, (the odds are very very rare but it does happen with such a pool of people), who grow into the reformers. However, from what I see here and experienced, in say Hong Kong a very liberal place, with many religious Chinese, such as the Mormon temple, Catholicism, there are indeed Chinese who help others, however, this is very very rare. Not to make a generalization, but religious missionaries always found China to be a tough nut to crack due to materialism for starters, but a belief that rich people deserve to be comfortable owning to the Karma they accumulated, and the poor, deserve their lot due to negative karma accumulated. This is evident in Chinese Peasant (context; country folk, or the "Pays").

Mental health and relief for the poor are very very not frowned on, but not encouraged. It's a very "mmm lay hui" (don't attention (pay attention), to hui (him/her). As a result there is a huge divide of impoverished, and the super rich. (This actually inspired many many revolts notably the Yellow Headband revolution from Romance of he 3 Kingdoms), But I'm just glad in Hong Kong, although there are many ignorant people who make Scrooge look like A Philanthropist. There are many many young Hong Kongers who are into helping. Many Chinese who are keeping a dying system alive by helping, and really defying the odds of redicule and humiilation and abject fear. Such as a mom who decided to open a school for Autistic children.

The Middle Class usually take their grades and run away to America, Canada, Australia, go to school there and stay there. And or they join the rat race game. They study things that make money, as it's very stigmatic to say become a psychiatrist, they become a doctor for profit, and of course run off to the States. As profit minded doctors do out of Canada, while Candian doctors, Chinese doctors stay behind take significantly less pay and do it because they enjoy helping people. However this is very rare among the Chinese. Who blames them humans want to go up in life. I certainly want to be middle class and comfortable, who doesn't want to be rich in the world. (be honest). Have goods, and priviliges. I've seen how the Shanghainese caucasian Expats live, in apartments with parks and trees. Who doesn't want suburbia.

It takes great disciplen and a strong sense of respoinsibiilty to take up jobs that achieve these goals of comfort, and luxury but slowly.

My step mom is screaming at my dad about a house, looking at house. All I hear is her sreech ot constantly "My Ork. My ork. My Ork (my buy, ork (house). And I eventually want to settle down in a nice middle class comfortable house. However, for the middle Class Chinese, this is not enough. It's like they're on crack on a buying bender. And a increased middle class is where the Party wants them. It's their Last trump card.

While the party pumps out Cyborg gymnasts winning Gold, cybernetic chess players, and other ELIET class intellectuals, (who enjoy a grand existance of heroism that they dont' have to live with us in the dirty cold apartments (middle class), that all of China is in love with them, and their acting, singing, olympianing, and inventing..... It's like hollywood but 1 BILLION TIMES MORE of course. This what the middle class of China aspires to. This is what a middle class is grooming their children for, not for enlightenment, but the classic world of piano, being a high tech star doctor, Learning language so they can become some high and powerful yuppie.

however it's the lower classes who live in the S, who devise better ways to clean it up, or clean up nature, after they see people suffering. And it's them who change China. the "People" in "People's" republic of China.

But back to Liu Xaiobo, now with Aung Syu Kyi released, should he become the next to be pressured for release. Chrystler shot a car add,in which the imprisoned spirit of Aung drove a Crystler 300, to the Summit of Noble Prize winners of the Peace Prize. I hope so. I would however like to write to Aung now that she's released to nominate the "Autistic mom" (the Chiense mother who resisted in a murder suicide for her and son, to begin awareness to the plight of our kind.

It's not that I hate my own people the Chinese, I'm just mega disapointed at some of the attitudes that I don't find in the west, such as volunteerism, and giving a bleep about things other than money, but Sterfy is right, with an increase in education and upgrading say the rural places in China. Say if reincrarnation is right. wouldn't it be in your interests to make each successive generationa better place, so that 1) You don't suffer so much in the next re-spawn 2) see 1. So wouldn't super rich Chinese or upper middle class be setting up an conditions that are improved? for say child birth, mental illness, poverty reduction, as Sterfy said, be middle class and reform China, or else where in the world. Instead of striving for something that is impossible. Being super super rich.

I would think that the autistic mother would be put into a very awkward position in regards to the government if she were to be nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. The Chinese government has done all they can to discredit the prize since Liu Xiaobo won it.
