Be careful what you post online

A teacher got suspended for venting about her students in general in her blog. Unfortunately one of her students found it and read it and reported it. Then somehow other students and parents saw the blog too as well. That blog was not meant to be seen by anyone else but her friends and family. But unfortunately she didn't have it set private, she had it set public where anyone could see it. Obviously internet illiterate. She even used her photo too as her blog avatar and signed her name as Natalie M, a dead giveaway. Not very smart.

I support her. Unfortunately it is all true what she said. I have been reading comments and I hear students are really that bad. They don't respect their teachers, some do pranks on them, talk bad to their faces, etc. People just can't handle criticism about themselves and decide to change that about themselves if the comments bother them so much. Luckily kids in my school were never that bad but some did skip, some didn't turn in their work assignments, and the worst thing I heard was kids would switch names to mess with the subs, to give her a hard time but I never saw it happen in my school but I heard about it because our art teacher told us we were going to have one and she wanted us all to be nice to her and be respectful and no switching names.
While I think it was stupid she was suspended and could lose her job, we also need to be careful what we write online to protect ourselves.

I don't support her. While I do know children can be horrible and treat teachers horrendously today, and I do think schools should enforce codes of conduct more, a teacher with an attitude such as this...
"She also listed some comments she wished she could post on student evaluations, including: "I hear the trash company is hiring"; "I called out sick a couple of days just to avoid your son"; and "Just as bad as his sibling. Don't you know how to raise kids?""
Can be very damaging to children, and the impact on their self esteem can be permanent.
How does she know a student is being lazy? Perhaps that student is struggling with issues at home, or some un-addressed learning disorder. So what if they argue their grades? Students should have a right to question their grades, and English can be an entirely subjective subject. The teacher is often vague in what they want students to do or how they expect students to do it, and very few English instructors know how to teach the subject in a structured manner. A lot of English instructors are good at writing and don't understand the extent that some people struggle with it.
I understand she was frustrated. I understand students say horrible things to and about teachers. I understand many students are rude to their teachers, but I also know many teachers mis-judge students and unfortunately, I've been at the receiving end of that mis-judgement before.
She should have taken her issues to the school board if her boss wasn't doing anything about it.
What you're saying is the problem.
People can't be stupid anymore, they're mentally handicapped or challenged.
People can't choose not to pay attention, they can't pay attention cause they have ADD
People can't be lazy, they have learning disorders.
Me and my brother both have more mental disorders than you can write down on a piece of notebook paper. I haven't been diagnosed with any learning disorders though I'm sure my inability to do complex math could get me diagnosed with one. We both score within the top 90% on all state exams, I graduated with almost a 3.5 unweighted GPA while slacking! I'm okay with my math and english teachers saying I was a difficult student, I couldn't pay attention or any of that because I'm sure it's true. I don't need to make excuses for myself, my brother is hardly able to communicate with anyone and he's going to beat the public school system without any special accommodations (and he is LAZY, for real...I love the kid but I clean up after him)
People need to learn to take s**t worth face value! If someone acts lazy call them lazy, you don't need to send them to a professional so that they can take Lazy and make a 7+ letter 2-3 word diagnosis. Here's a funny diagnosis for you "Oppositional Defiant Disorder". I supposedly have it, in plain English it just means that I break rules and defy authority from time to time. Does that even make any sense? People don't have free will anymore....they have being psychologically right or having mental disorders. I really doubt anyone could see a psych for a year without getting slapped with a half dozen of these stupid intelligent sounding strings of words.

I do not support her. If a teacher is public admitting that their students are a pain-in-the-ass, then they should not be teaching. It is clearly unprofessional and sends the students the wrong message. Maybe the teacher can find a career that they enjoy better. I think the teacher should be suspended.
Oh, and if it is on Facebook then it is public.
What she did is unprofessional, especially since she did it in a way that allowed people to figure out who she is, and her profession. While I know kids can be horrible, and that parents don't care or they think their special snowflake is being "picked" on by the teacher, blogging about it isn't the way to vent. That's what the teacher's lounge is for, or writing something in a paper journal that is kept hidden.
What the attitude she expressed in her blog affecting how she performed in the classroom? If she was failing her students, then it is right that she loses her job.

Everyone vents about their jobs. I hear other teachers do it too but they don't have blogs to do it on to their friends or family. They do it at home to their husbands or to their friends. My mom is a nurse and I have seen her talk about her patients and saying how stupid people are or how they are not very smart. Now I bet if she had a blog on it and someone found it, she might have gotten suspended as well or fired.
The teacher had her students anonoymous. She didn't say the name of the school, didn't say her students names, didn't mention what town she was in. She didn't intend for anyone to find it. It was meant to be private for her and she had seven people following it which was her family or friends. They talked her into doing a blog to share with them so she did it. The mistake she made was not keeping it password protected and having it be restricted so only people can see it she is sharing it with. Now I bet if she were keeping a journal in her home and some student came over to her house and she stupidly left it out and the student saw it, he decides to be nosy and read it and sees the stuff. Bam he reports it to the school, and the teacher still gets suspended with pay. I don't see any difference here of course. I bet if the teacher was caught talking badly about her students to her friends at a Starbucks and one of her students happened to be there and he went on reporting it, I bet she still be suspended with pay.
Two other mistakes she made were posting her photo in her blog, signing her name Natalie M. Maybe if she left those out, the student might not have know it was hers and think it was some other teacher's. In fact he might not have even found her blog if he did a search on her name.
Oh here is her side of the story to the situation:

It seems like we have a double standard in society "You can talk trash about me but I better not find out about or or catch you or you are fired. I don't care if I was a dick to you, I better not catch you or find out you were talking about it to someone else." So it is okay to talk trash about people but they just better not know about or or find out or else it was wrong to talk trash about them.

It is actually wrong even if the other person never knows or finds out. But of course, you are right about many people thinking differently.

So how do people vent? How do you vent?
How do people vent about their bullies?
I see some trash talk on here by members when they whine about their families or how they are treated by other people and wouldn't that be trash talking strangers or their families?

Well I don't know if I where a student and i found my teacher talking crap over the internet and saying hurtful things about the students I would probably have a hard time taking them seriously as a teacher. I mean seriously if she hates teaching that much she should not be teaching......not to mention students knowing their teacher is talking crap about them behind their bakcs might piss them off a little bit and effect how well they pay attention in class.
However angry and frustated she was. Her conduct was
unprofessional. When you in the type of job dealing with
people you can not vent openly to everyone in the whole world and be candid.
Yes I do realise people do vent but only to their colleagues or their families
not to the students via a blog.
I support the teacher, as a resident of a human rights abusing country.... who lost his freedom of speech. I value everyone and anyone to speak the contents of their conscience without fear of reprisal.
Now the parent and student should in turn have the privilige to su the teacher for personal slander. But to lose one's GOVERNMENT job (I'm assuming this is in America, a school is an institution of a DEMOCRATIC society, a private business however is a private business, so one can fire who ever they want)!..is ignorant on the teacher's part, but very very legal.
