I'm celebrating Yuri's Night this evening by drinking a couple of (non-alcoholic) beers and spending a few hours outside with the telescope stargazing

Except that to do so, the Russians apparently need more fuel, whereas the French base in Guyane needs a lot less due to Earth's geometry. :> Go figure.

The US won't be out of the game long. There are many great looking private companies (SpaceX, Bigelow Aerospace, etc), in addition to plans for new NASA rockets

Wait, where are you stargazing from? Because if you're from Montreal (like i think you should be... Based on prior information) or somewhere around, you should know the sky's not exactly great around urban areas. Too much light. =/

I know  I hate it. But I don't live that close to downtown, I'm a West Islander. The view still isn't that great, but its decent enough for me!
Worst comes to worse, I can take out my hunting bow and shoot out a few streetlights

Yep that is correct, 2010. In the series of novels it also goes to 2061 (I think) and then 3001
