Worldwide advertising agency BBDO has auto corrected words like ape, chimpanzee and monkey so that whenever they are typed into an advert script the sentence instantly ends with

Quote:
"…who was taken from his mother when only weeks old to act in front of the camera. During his training, the ape will be kicked, punched, and beaten to perform what you are just about to write. Don't let it happen."
They then provide a link to the website NoMonkeyBusinessOn.tv

What are your thoughts on this? Good idea? Bad idea?

Their endless shock tactics are distastful and wont help me feel empathy for these specific animals.

Personally I want the use of chimps in adverts to be discouraged. But the only problem I have with the above method is that the scriptwriter could easily backspace it all and hire a circus chimp anyway.

I'm confused... if BBDO is the advertising agent in charge, why doesn't it just ban the use of apes/monkeys in commercials in the first place?

It's pretty bad to be honest, there's no way you could get them to volunteer to do all those stupid things.

I hate that primates are used in medical research. It should be completely outlawed.

I know, we should be using convicts.

Or volunteers, I'm sure there would be some courageous people out there.

Yeah, if you move up their eligibility for parole or release date enough. Since we have the death penalty, we might be able to make a loophole to do experiments that we would otherwise have to use chimps or go to China or North Korea for.

It seems like a better replacement for the death penalty actually, I've never been too keen on the death penalty.

By primates, I meant both humans and apes, not just one or the other. I am against medical testing unless the person agrees to it. Apes can't possibly agree, so they should be left alone.

There's more than one way to make a convict agree to it! :P

Nah, you shouldn't make the convict agree to it.
