It's supposed to be really bad :(
I haven't seen any pictures or video. The media is making it sound like the town was leveled.

Thank you for posting it, I have an aunt and uncle there. My uncle has heart problems, even if he did not get dirrectly hit, the power outages would cause trouble for him getting staying cool enough for his heart without A/C. I just called them. The line is busy. I dont know if that is a good sign or a bad one.

I just heard the cell phones are out, the land lines are out, so is the power. The tornado is estimated high f4 or f5.
It looks much like the tornado we experienced from what I've seen of the damage in the video.
Glad everyone is alright, JoJobean!

I am glad too. However I am concerned for my uncle's heart. Anyway, the hospital and a walmart was hit. The walmart has ppl trapped in it.

Now this is just eerie...I was looking on the internet for more info about the tornado...mainly cause I cant talk to my uncle who is there, and I want to scope out the situation and apartently someone b#tched in the newspaper about a month ago about what if an F5 fits us and the city does not have any storm shelters for those who cant afford one. And a month later a possible f5 leveled 75 percent of the city according to CNN. That is kinda eerie dont you think?

Here is the link:

there is probably going to be a big..."I told you so" comming out of this.

The entire area is incredibly low on storm shelters. We have more here because of our many tornadoes, one which was the fastest recorded wind speed on earth.
It is eerie. Maybe that person complaining had a vague feeling something would happen and it did?
I hope your cousin finds a generator. Usually Lowe's or Home Depot has them, but they could be out because of the storm.

Good Lord what next. This might be Tuscaloosa again or worse. And the Minneapolis area was hit causing damage and fatalities though from what I've heard not quite as bad.

I have an aunt who grew up in SW Missouri (She moved NJ a few years ago). Anyways, my mother was on the phone with her as one of her friends lives in Joblin. This friend left town before the tornado came through and when they finally got back this morning the streets were unrecognizable in the path where the tornado came through. The city is impossible to drive through by car. Parts look like Hiroshima. In one entire neighborhood the ground is just dirt and rubble. Even the grass got dug up from the debris.

I saw videos on cnn and the whole area looks like someone put joplin into a giant can crusher. Twisted metal heaped everywhere and cars piled on top of each other, crunched together. I still havent heard from my uncle and aunt yet. I hope my cousin is checking in to make sure they have basic suplies. I better call him soon.

ya maybe she had a premonition that the tornado was going to hit.

What the hell is up with these psycho twisters this spring??? Although, not more than usual, but much stronger than usual.
Is this something we should expect with climate change. My aunt that lives in Joplin says that the climate in her area has really been noticably changing for a few years.
I wonder if these tornados are part of an overall climate change pattern or a localized climate flunctuations??

Just very unlucky that such a strong tornado went right through a large metropolitan area. This is as bad or worse than the one that destroyed Moore OK in 1999 or the one that leveled the city of Flint MI in 1953. Hundreds of people are wandering the streets with nowhere to go. The city is roughly 50,000 people and almost nobody went to work in the city today. Everywhere you look it's like a massive junk yard with all kinds of random items strewn for miles.

We experienced an outbreak with ef3 damage. It snapped a power line pole and blew some over here, but, thankfully, no major damage in this town. I had to go into the storm shelter, though, claustrophobic and underground.
One thing I've learned is not to stay in a bathroom or closet when anything larger than an ef1 is on it's way. Either leave or get underground or it's suicide.

Have you checked with your cousin, JoJo? Everyone alright?
I heard on Hannity the reason for the prolonged, intense outbreak could be climate change, specifically, a cooling trend involving the Pacific Ocean. Similar situation occurred in the 1940s-70s. There were some monster tornadoes then, too.
The climate change could be a temporary phenomena. Do we as a species really understand the reasons climate change occurs? Or do we just arrogantly think we do? It's debatable.
