I wish this happened when I was in school. Many meltdowns were caused from a teacher screaming at me becuase I couldn't write cursive properly or at least what they deamed "perfectly". I definatly would have been diagnsoed with dysgraphia if I were a kid today. What I needed was a teacher who was encouraging and had a "Rome wasn't built in a day" minset.

I rarely write in cursive. I always preferred to print anyway.

Cursive is utterly useless.

The only reason the learn it is to sign your name. Otherwise, dump it.

I can't write in cursive worth squat.

With cursive one can write with feeling. The curved motions afford a degree of freedom that hand printing does not. There is also the element of beauty. Hand printing just isn't all that beautiful. The only issue with hand printing is clear/legible or not.

mine's never legible either way in other people's opinions. LOL

cursive is just faster.

I didn't realize it was a requirement at all.
I was never taught cursive at any point throughout my schooling. Neither were any of my brothers.
I can sign my name but am unable to write anything else in cursive. As for reading it, some people's handwriting I can make out but most I find completely illegible. The ones I can read are generally a mix of writing and printing, and I think I read the printed letters and fill in the rest with what makes sense...

Oh no! What's next? No more cave painting, fire starting class, and theoretical wheel design?

It's 2011! Screw penmanship already. Teach them to touch type and they'll be fine.
