This is one of the more stranger stories I came across on the Australian news.
http://www.news.com.au/entertainment/fa ... 6106345484

Apparently the mother was angry at the pageant organisers who she claimed were being patronising awarding her autistic daughter "Miss Personality"?

What confuses me is why she entered her child in such a superficial event like this in the first place??

Weird. it doesn't make any sense either. It sounds like it's the mother who is doing the discrimination just because she doesn't have good social skills.

Child Beauty Pageant?

This mother is exploiting her child in what I consider a barely legal act of child exploitation, and still has the audacity to complain about her child winning?

For those interested, this story has just clocked the number one most read news item online in Australia.

First off, let it be said I think that parents who make their little kids go do a beauty pageant are completely out of their minds. It's not impossible for someone on the spectrum to be agreeable. They can have a great personality once you get to know them, even if they are not super charismatic like this nutcase mother seems to mistake for personality. It looks like she might be on the heavier end of the normal weight range, so at least her mother isn't starving her for it.

I understand the mom in a way, but really it's her own fault in the end. Did she really think that the kind of people who run kiddie beauty pagents would be sensitive and informed? They exploit children for money, duh.

Honestly, if I was entered in a pageant and got an award for "Best Personality", I would question it too. I mean, what kind of award is "Best Personality"? Is it intended to be a joke of some kind? Are they awarding her for having more of a personality or less of one?

Also, I don't get some of the comments here. There's nothing in the article that says the the mother forced her daughter into the competition. She's only questioning its results.

So....this mother is arguing, publicly and loudly, that her daughter actually doesn't have a great personality? What a terrible message to give her daughter.

It seems like she's trying to say that the judges are being patronizing. But what she's actually saying is that her daughter does not have the best personality.

Gee, thanks Mom.

I don't think that woman deserves to have a kid.

^^
Seconded.

Although this girl doesn't appear to be autistic,
this girl's mom probably emotionally & psychologically
abused her child before in the past and then
entered her in this kiddie beauty pageant
in the first place.

WTF?

uhmm question?? Why did she enter her daughter in the compitition if she didn't want her to win?? I mean entering a child in a compitition in hopes she would not win is really cruel.

Some parents should never have kids. I absolutely hate child beauty pagents...I mean I have seen glimpes of some and the degree of eroticism they expect out of these kids is really, really sick.
I mean these kids will probably be f**ked up for life.

Child beauty pageants should be against the law.

The should be...it is a form of pediphilia. But money evades the law.
