Canadians with mental illnesses denied entry to US

Utterly disgusting. But Canada also discriminates against US citizens for mental health and medical conditions. A family that had a child with aspergers was denied to moving into Canada for example.

The American authorities should have no access to anyone's mental health records. They can have access to criminal records. But there is no reason they need mental health records. How can the Canadian government let our government have access to their people's sensitive information that should be private?

I can just imagine that you were a young adult who was gay or transgender or your family abused you. You attempted suicide, but eventually you recovered and moved on in your life.

Then you simply want to go on vacation into the United States and then suddenly they say you cannot because "you are mentally ill" and deny you entrance despite the fact that you are no longer a threat to yourself and you were never a threat to others.

This is true, I had posted long ago that some father and his two sons, one who was autistic, all of which were living in Canada, were denied citizenship on the basis that the autistic son would be a burden on the canadian health welfare. =.=

I think most countries do that. (not defending it)

That's awful! What if someone is in a country where people with mental disorders are discriminated against and abused and they are trying to get to America or Canada so they can be treated decently? How can these politicians live with themselves? People with disabilities ARE REAL TOO!

...I'd better get away from this thread before I get myself in trouble.

With a little chance it won't be a problem for the travel in Florida that my parents have planned with me...

during the last winter olympics, it was in the local news that canada denied tens of thousands of americans admittance into the country because of trivial things like speeding tickets on their records.
