It is potentiallly a reallly bad situation, unless good-hearted people try and do something. With the modest amount of money I'm likely to make this Christmas season, I would like to do something.

So, the first question is, who has experience with electronic donations, maybe by phone or by PayPal via Internet, and what advice might you give?

And secondly, I have good feelings toward Doctors without Borders. Ideally, I would like to have two other organizations I feel good about. Any recommendations?

Advice: Stay with the established organizations that you are familiar with and that have good reputations. Doctors Without Borders is a good one, so is the Red Cross. I'd stay far away from any organization that only has a web presence, or that insists on having your name, address, credit card number, mother's maiden name, phone number, and home address ... they're likely looking to rip your identity and/or sell it to someone else.

What do you expect in return?

Yes, Oxfam is very reputable. I volunteered some with their organization when I was in college. They have been around a very long time and have a strong local presence in many affected countries.
