Quote:
BOY, 13, RAPED AN 11-YR-OLD

A BOY aged 13 has been convicted of raping an 11-year-old girl.

The youngster, 12 at the time of the attack, pleaded guilty to rape after admitting consensual sex at his home.

Judge Anthony Russell at Preston crown court told the boy: "It is an offence to have sexual intercourse with someone who is not old enough to consent by law."

...

Julie Taylor, representing the boy, said he had a mild form of autism.

Yes, this is a real phenomena. I'd like to know what's going on. It is especially bad because there are lots of ~15 yr old girl who look 18+ Not all that long ago, most 15 yr olds looked 15. When I was 13, I was just becoming vaguely attracted to girls.

Is this a result of our over-sexed media? Is it due to advances in medicine? I think this a question that needs to be answered.

I actually thought of doing that when I was thirteen- you know how thirteen-year olds are.
Thank gods I didn't act on my fantasies.

Puberty has become earlier in our society, mainly due to improving health care and changing nutritional habits.

But at the same time, people are trying to dress and act like older teenagers at younger ages. Ten years ago, you never saw 12-year-olds wearing spaghetti-strap tank tops. Nowadays, it's "normal", and it certainly makes them look older.

This happens all the time but doesn't go to the news because 13 year olds are supposed to have confidential records.

What worries me the most about the Daily Mirror article is that, while it mentions the boy has aspergers, it gave no justification for including it It put it in just so the reader could make his or her own inferences that those with aspergers are rapists or whatnot.

Wow! 13 years old? I didn't think he would do that because he's not that much older than the girl.

SuXEed, Jason, they only convicted him of statutory rape because of her age. He didn't actually rape her, as it was consensual. Personally, I think it's pretty bloody stupid, because it was consensual, and they were actually BOTH underage. By the same reasoning, as they were both underage, surely she could be convicted of raping him also, because legally he is considered too young to make an informed decision on the matter. It's an insane application of the law.

Having consensual sex with someone aged 13 or under is rape in this country.

Does the headline say 'rape' or 'statutory rape'? Precisely, it's sensationalising by the headline making it sound worse than it is, though it technically is true if referring to the charge of law. The reason she wasnt charged was that she was younger than him, so he's seen as the person responsible.

edit; tequila, the age you are looking for is 16. That is the age of consent in this country.

Yes, it is terrible!

I take it this occurred in England, or Australia, or somewhere.

Yes, Tequila, it is statutory rape for having consensual intercourse with someone under the age legal consent. A much more minor charge than actual rape of forced intercourse without the consent of the other person. Simply naming it as rape is sensationalizing it, even though they later admitted it was consensual. As Alex said, people that young are often having sex these days, except usually no charges are laid. That he has Aspergers is probably more an indication of why he was successfully charged and has nothing to do with anything else related to the matter.
Also, what is terrible, Jason?

Wait...it was consensual? Well, I can't say I'm surprised. Happens all the time in America; the girl's parents find out, then they ruin the life of a young teenager because neither of them are over the age of consent. Pretty pathetic.

Kind regards,
Chris

I don't think it is fair that only he was charged as both of them consented and both were too young to do so according to law. Either they both should have been, or under common sense, neither of them should have been, they just should have been grounded and thier parents reprimanded for being idiots.
