Blagojevich gets 14 years for corruption

I am struck by the note:

I certainly don't subscribe to the notion that every politician in Illinois is corrupt, but the track record hardly inspires confidence.

I just wonder exactly how MUCH of the 14 years he will actually serve?

I was surprised that he got caught in the first place, and now i'm even more surprised that he got such a large sentence.

I think the reason he got such a large sentence is hanging the jury in his last trial, resulting in a mistrial and not taking any plea bargains. The difference with a plea bargain can be exponential, it's entirely possible he could have plea bargained to 3-4 years. Blagojevich has it tough, because due to his attitude, he's not likely to have people be massively sympathetic to him, as he comes off as very much of a sociopath.

As far as how much he'll serve, well, BOP is currently doing 85% parole, so likely 12 years. He'll probably be protective custody, too at least for the first year or two, but like our governor Rowland he'll probably integrate more into general population after his first year or two. Also, he gets to be home for Christmas and New Years, and Valentines actually. He's gotta surrender to BOP by February 16th, which I believe makes things easier on him. I kinda think, though, he'll get released early. But the US govt. is kinda like, running out of money, so they'll probably make the parole rules 60% or so like they used to be. Also, as far as I know, he can still appeal his conviction, I don't know if appealing his conviction will really do much for him, but he can at least drag down everyone else with him and just use his appeal trial as a pulpit of sorts to expose everyone else in this scheme.

This is interesting.

WHAT THE HELL FOR?

For how long, and how many times, did he flatly deny he did anything wrong? Why on earth give him credit for finally admitting it now? What is it with people who so blatantly lie repeatedly, then recant once they realized everybody KNOWS the truth, and it can no longer be denied? What is it with people who give them credit for it when it's obvious the only reason they are doing it because they've finally realized WE AREN'T STUPID?!

Here's what he should have said: "Too little to late! Shut up and get out of my court!"

He isn't going to be the last one... if they know better they're after Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr. now too....

This isn't going to happen, but Blago should be bunked with a 6' 5'' sex hungry athlete who pumps 200 lbs minimum. It would be an interesting life for the Blago. He would be poontang. Someone's "girlfriend".
