"US Outrage as Egypt Bars Americans From Leaving"

I'm not very familiar with Egypt's overall relationship with the US, but it seemed like it they were cooperating more. It seems kind of weird that they would suddenly bar these Americans from leaving the country (although they have had some disagreements/dissension with the US in the past, and have been criticized by the US over some human rights issues). It'll be interesting to see how this plays out and if Egypt will continue to be an ally. Any thoughts? I like learning about new issues and hearing what others have to say.

I'm pretty sure they're dealing with a sexual assault endemic, their attitude is that if they have a chance to rape someone, they do it and afterwards it's her fault for giving them that chance. I'm not convinced that they shouldn't be allowed to emigrate here, I just think their society is still inhumane and unsuitable to visit, they have to fix that on their own.

Well, the basic principle here is that when you are in a foreign country you are subject to foreign law, and that includes exit controls.

As I understand it, the Egyptian government raided the offices of a US based NGO in connection with issues of its funding, and the refusal of exit permission flows from that. Given that we are dealing with a military caretaker regime it does not seem far-fetched that they would flex their muscles somewhat when it comes to foreign organizations stirring up trouble of issues like civil liberties and human rights.

A year ago we thought there was an Arab Spring starting in Tahir Square. Are we quite so sanguine, now?

Fancy a holiday in Egypt, anyone? Sharm el-Sheikh will now cease to exist but they knew that.

Back to the Canary Islands it is then, lads.

Yeah, somebody ought to do something about that here in the West. There is far too much of that crap going on here. :P
