I saw something on the news today that 55 US female soldiers have died serving in Iraq. While the military does not allow women to serve in ground combat, they are present in military zones and do end up being attacked. They also fly fighter jets, etc (not the ground, so I guess its permitted).

My question is, do you think females should be drafted if there is ever a draft, and whether yes or no, why?

Yes, you ask for equality, than take the bad with the good.

Who says *I* asked for equality? I want to stay home with my babies!

Respect and dignity would be nice, though. 8)

Yes who said every woman has "asked" for anything? Besides I think it overlooks the obvious - if women are captured there is the VERY real possibility of them being raped and getting pregnant and then you would have POWs with babies. Therefore definetely NOT EQUAL. And saying that things like depovera (longer term contraceptive) could be a solution is not valid because firstly it violates some people's beliefs and secondly it has health risks that women would be exposed to that men would not - so again NOT EQUAL.

I am all for conscientious objectors anyway.

And what about pregnant women? Would they be not included in the draft, or would they be expected to enroll right after they have the baby? What if they want to breastfeed the baby?

Who funds the daycare the baby is in? What if both parents are drafted in a family with children?

You have a point, walk-in-the-rain; even if a woman was given b.c. if she were imprisoned for a long period of time it would eventually stop working.

I would take the cyanide before getting knocked up by my captors!

I would never fight for a government which does not represent me and that is the current situation in USA....I dont think men should be drafted either.

I feel the same krex (that men should not be drafted either); I chose the last option.

Yes, but it will never happen. Public opinion will never tolerate the drafting of women. It just barely tolerates the drafting of men. And politicians have more freedom to do stupid things like invade Iraq when the army is "volunteer."

Drafting women should not be on the military's list of things to do when they have yet another sex scandal coming out.

I was really hoping that the Democrats would call the Republicans bluff by trying to pass a draft BEFORE we invaded Iraq....I thought some of the "flag wavers" would be less likely to support the war if it was their kids butts on the line.I know my very Republican parents were against the Vietnam War when My oldest brother starting getting close to the age he might be drafted.

Well if you asked me before the Gulf War II I would say there would never be another
draft. But if Iran and/or North Korea attacked US forces a draft would be needed.

Women right now can do every job but Infantry soldiers. So I see no reason why they should not be drafted for the jobs they are doing now.

I have heard political "experts" say in a new draft it would be applied equalily to all
class of people. Which means all those war hawks in Washington now who did not serve
in the Vietnam War their kids and grand kids will have no legal way to avoid the draft.

A draft of the rich and powerfull children (male and female) would go along way to avoid
unneeded wars in the future.

There should be an option like, "No, because I'm female, and I'm chicken"

I actually want to change my vote. Yes, both should be drafted, but women should be placed in clerical military jobs and in factory jobs instead of in a warzone. In warzones around the world, rape of women is used as a weapon. A scientific study has also shown that men are able to work together towards a common goal better than women, something that would be of great importance in the middle of a warzone. I despise sexism.

I think they should exclude werberts from the draft. I would be about as useful as a Catholic priest's genitals, and far less dangerous.

Seriously though, let's hope this question never comes up.
