Thanks for the heads-up warning. People really need to develop--and use--common sense regarding all types of privacy on the I-net. Too many people just can't seem to grasp that it's a digital jungle out there, and that we are on the menu of the digital predators.
Remember folks, stop telling total strangers private info that should be kept on a need-to-know basis. That includes:
- Financial info
- Medical info
- Personal ID info
- Personal info, like that mentioned in the linked article here.
The world doesn't need to know every detail of your lives. When you tell the world all these things, you are also telling the predators of the world. They surf the web, too. You have to protect yourselves from the predators, and can best do that by keeping private stuff private.
My advice is dump the general social sites, like FB and Twitter. They make it too easy to do stupid stuff online, that you will regret later. You can keep in touch fine with real friends and relatives with emails, phone calls, in person, and--GASP--with snail mail. I do, and have never had any accounts with any of the general social sites.
Remember, need-to-know, people. If they don't need-to-know, don't spread it around.
