I just don't understand why people use their real name online when these days people know that your employer or potential employer can check your Facebook and you can get in trouble or not get a job over it. People should use a fake name and have the privacy settings on their Facebooks locked down as tight as possible.

I was always taught to not use my real name on line for privacy and safety.

I never use my real name, I don't have a Facebook account yet, I'm just not interested in one.
My brother has a high security government job, and does not have one.

When you see stories like this its no wonder some people hate social networking. I have facebook myself but mainly use it as a tool to talk with friends and such, I rarely post on it or "like" controversial things. An interesting thing to note is that there used to be a setting to prevent you from being found in a name search that mysteriously disappeared. No such thing as privacy on the internet I suppose.

well my thoughts are "like" is a word and should be protected under free speech.

here is a thought, if a mute illiterate person used painting to express controversial issues...no word is being used, does that person have the right to free speech even if said person's only language is images?
Should this person be denied the first amendment because he/she can only speak in images?

As far as using real names on facebook...it does help you get in touch with old friends, but it also puts you at risk of people you dont want finding you, to find you and use what you say against you.

I guess that's true. I never thought of that because I don't have any old friends that I would want to get in touch with.

But they aren't saying anything... they are clicking a button...

Totally different type of situation... BUT... art is protected as free speech...
