I don't think I'll be going to go see that movie.

I haven't seen it myself. Must be really crazy for a movie...

Y'know, there was a certain movie that I was planning on seeing this October (Tim burton's Frankenweenie) but with all the psychos going into movie theaters these days, maybe it'd be better to wait until it comes out on DVD... I know that Frankenweenie is a totally different type of movie than TDKR, but why take a chance?

He claims it was just for self-defense, but he had a 9 mm handgun with THREE full clips of ammunition.

A manager at the theater and an off-duty police officer grew suspicious of where he sat, and they noticed the bag Smith was carrying."

Why is that suspicious? I've purposely sat in the back in the middle before.

I think they would have noticed the bag sooner. In some theaters they make you check bags or want to look in them to make sure you aren't smuggling food to try to make you buy their expensive food.

"Smith told the off-duty officer he was carrying the gun and knives for protection, to protect himself and other moviegoers, said police, who took him into custody."

Who knows, maybe he was.

Don't live your life in fear. I've been to 2 mid-night premiers since TDKR (went to that too). It's great because next to no one was there and we got to sit anywhere we wanted in the theatre. Your more likely to die in a car accident on the way to and from the movie theatre then to get shot.

That being said the media needs to stop covering that Holmes punk. The attention they are giving him is feeding in to what he wants and, encouraging copy cats seeking the same level of notoriety.

Nobody needs three clips just for self-defense purposes though. It sounds more likely he was planning to shoot up the place. I don't know why somebody would go see a movie in the first place if they're that scared.

I carry 3 mags if you count the one in the gun, a double mag pouch balances the weight of the gun better.

It's called a magazine or mag for short. A clip is what's used to load and hold ammo in an M1 rifle and a few others but not a handgun.


It sure doesn't look good on his part and that's coming from someone who carries a concealed handgun sometimes including to theaters.

I completely agree, I still plan to see TDKR myself in the theater, probably this weekend.

I think it's because that would likely be the best spot for him if he was going to start shooting. Back row, with his back against the wall, means nobody can surprise him from behind. In a different row, no matter which way he faced, there could be people behind him that could (potentially) tackle him down almost right away. Middle of the row lets him be fairly close to most people in the theater, whereas on an end he'd have to aim over longer distances.

He sounds like the type to possibly go on a shooting spree though. He was an army dropout that enlisted in the U.S. Army but did not finish basic training for one thing.

Glad someone else was bothered by the misuse of the word "clip" as well.

I'm not a theater person myself (too much chattering and people and the horrible stadium-style seating makes me feel as if I'm falling), so I wouldn't even be in one to begin with. From what I've heard, this individual (and the others like him) seem to fit the profile of a "suspicious person" due to the fact that he was carrying a bag and (apparently) had a firearm in his possession. If someone wanted to be "safe" in the event of a shooting, why not simply learn martial arts? I would say wear body armor, but that would arous far too many suspicions (look at Holmes). Better yet, if you're that scared, why not forgo the whole theater thing and settle for the DVD release? Not only would the threat of crazed gunmen be eliminated for the most part, you can even watch Batman naked without getting thrown out and pig out on all the snacks you want for far cheaper than going out. Oh, and you can have your pets too.

That CNN article called them "magazine clips". I guess just calling them magazines would sound like the kind you read.

Look on the bright side, least they aren't saying Smith has an ASD or a schizophrenic.
