Her intentions may have been good but that's not how to educate any child with an ASD...
How would she like it if I poured rat poison on the soil to stop her eating the soil?

If the teacher gets their job back, the parent should get the kid to scratch their ass and dip their finger in the teacher's coffee and call it even!

I've heard of people putting hot sauce on a kids thumb to make him stop sucking it, but it's their parents who do that and the kid isn't ASD. Teachers shouldn't do that kind of thing, and should be limited only to spanking and only if the parents consent to it.

I'd be furious if that was done to my kid, no matter if they were on the spectrum or not.

Considering some people can have major allergic reactions to hot sauce? I don't think she should be allowed back.

To be honest, I clicked to read the Yahooligans' comments. Even the ignorant comments can at times provide a bit of humor (it's funny to see a vast congregation of keyboard warriors and pseudo-experts in the Church of Idiocy). It's not surprising that they will likely reinstate her, simply because there seems to be a shortage of individuals willing to accept low pay (from what I've heard) to work with individuals that require more intensive supervision and direction. Personally, I think her intentions may have not been malicious, but the action is and as the popular saying goes, actions speak louder than words. She should take compulsory classes on how to deal with special needs students before even being allowed to resume her teaching career. Upon being reinstated, she should be supervised for any further inappropriate behavior.

BTW, I know none of this will happen due to the current state of the economy and lack of funding.

If this teacher had pulled a stunt like this with a neurotypical adult, I have to wonder if the judge would be so eager to get her reinstated.

What kind of hot sauce was it? Some hot sauces are hotter than others. Some would probably encourage the child to eat crayons.

If crayons were at all toxic, plenty of kids wouldn't have lived into adulthood. But the whole idea of making the crayons taste bad or burn the child's mouth just seems like a low thing for a teacher to do, as plenty of non-autistic kids eat crayons and never get punished or get their behavior modified.

If someone had done that to me as a kid, the joke would have been on them because I like spicy things.

On a more serious note, there are plenty of other ways to stop a child from doing something potentially destructive, but educators are not exactly experts when it comes to that.
