Teen with Autism Tasered by Police

In the early morning hours of 12/22, a shirtless, barefoot teen with autism was found crossing the Broadway Bridge in Portland, Oregon. Police tasered said teen after he did not respond to their commands. According to the police report, the said he was "high on drugs" and was "physically intimidating." This is the third time police officers were involved in assaulting an unarmed citizen. In September of 2005, police murdered a young man who was in serious need of medical attention. A year later, police murdered James Chasse, a schziopherenic homeless man because he was simply homeless. Now, tasering an autistic person is enough. I will not be surprised if a "cop killer" starts showing up. I mean, who would miss a racist, sexist, anti-citizen killer who would shoot first & talk later?

As one with Aspergers, I would like to find a card that tells authorities about AS.

You will get d*** head cops like that ive seen how they miss use them coz they can't be bothered to run after the suspect - alot are tosser's that should not even have a firearm but all of them are not like this, they normaly treat people with better respect than this - it happen's to everyone....

Just got to weed them out....

my god that's awful. what, they couldn't handle the situation any other way? what did this teen do that was so threatening other than just not listen to them? who knows, maybe he didn't even hear them. he wasn't pointing a gun at them or anything, good grief.

The autistic teen is African-American, five-ten & weighs 260 pounds. I live close to the area & just the thought of the corrupt police bureau of my city tasering an autistic teen just sickens me. His grandmother runs a nearby church & takes care of him.

I wonder if the family is considering legal action?Someone on here once told of the police telling him to register his two AS sons with local police in case something like this happened but I doubt that would solve the problem.I wonder what part of their actions was based on racism?Large unusualy acting(walking barefoot in winter at 4am)blackman=very scary,to many people.You would think professionals would be above that but they are obviously,not.

In addition, race might have been an issue in this Autie's appearing 'physically intimidating' to the police.

This is just the sort of thing my wife worries about concerning both myself and our son. It is a place were training is sorely needed but most law enforcement officials I have met think ASD is just an excuse
