just a jejune thought, but maybe the sharp pencils should study aspies that have empathy.

Its very interesting to see that they've identified this region. It matches the location of what other studies have found to be the center of these processes.

It contains the amygdala. Identified in studies as a major player in many social anxiety responses.
It is one of the major connective areas of the human mirror neuron system. Ties broca's area (language center) with audio-visual centers and related responses.
