Why on Earth should a man who isn't even British and is a tax exile get an award? What for, crap music? Also, the way that Blair announced it was way off and ignored protocol.

 Tequila.

I was gonna say that, but in my opinion, U2 are OK. Mediocre. Not bad, but not good.

If he gets an award, I want one for services to the beer industry (propping up the bar at my local pub).

hmmmpf, i quite like U2

but i think we need to get some perspective here, i mean why all the brouhaha over bono when for goodness sake CLIFF RICHARD has a knighthood??? 8O i mean they tried to strip Jeffrey Archer's peerage for his criminal record, surely they could annul Cliff's knighthood for 50 years of criminal records!

I think this is a bit sad tbh.

I have always thought its possible to buy knighthoods (via political donations). Anyway, I remember it being said of them in Australia before giving knighthoods was abandoned in favour of other awards.

Would he have the Sir title, or is that only for British people?

That's only for British people. People on most of the island of Ireland can't call themselves 'Sir' but many (like that arrogant prick 'Sir' Bob Geldof) do so anyway.

What about Sir Richard Hadlee (NZ cricketer) and our former Premiers Sir Dick Hamer and Sir Henry Bolte (Vic, Aus) ? Not to mention my Uncle, Sir Les Patterson (please don't mention him  )

I've looked up alternate title names online, and the Irish Gaelic variation of "Sir" is Sior. I think it's likely he could adopt the title of "Sir" but it's not really common unless one is a Brittish citizen.

I was wondering the same thing. It sounds interesting, though. Sir Bono.

Bono is a self serving a**hole with an ego the size of a jumbo jet. I dont think he is quite so cynical as Geldof but is instead as thick as two short planks.

He deserves a prison sentence not an award.

Bono's a hypocrite. One of the things that always confused me about him is that on the "How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb" CD there's a track called "Love & Peace or Else". Well if he's a peacemaker, what is he going to do? Get mildly annoyed?

I do like U2 though.
