ABSOLUTELY FASCINATING. Perhaps a chemical which somehow codes for impulses, and remembers feelings/senses, even creates them? It amazes me. how do you compress information like that? Yet again, our brains are more efficent and smaller scale than computers. I could go on for ages as to the possibilities.

Its the connections between neurons were information is stored. The bulk of the
brain is infact "wires" connections of neurons together. The number of connection to a single neuron can be very high (hundred thousand in some I think).

Its the complex connections to that single neuron that your brain is using to store the information.

In order for any experience, traumatic or not, to become part of memory, it must be "sensed".

It must be experienced by the individual. First step in experiencing is "sensation".

The five senses of the body have the capacity to transform forms of energy from the external world (e.g., light, sound, pressure) into patterned activity of sensory neurons.

First "stop" of this sensory input from the outside environment (e.g, light, sound, taste, touch, smell) and inside body (e.g., glucose levels, temperature) is the lower, more "regulatory" parts of the brain - brainstem and midbrain.

As the sensory input comes into the brain stem and midbrain, it is matched against a previously stored patterns of activation and if unknown, or if associated with previous threat, an initial alarm response begins.

The scientist in the article mentions as a possible practical application for this discovery a brain reader that translates information from the brain into external communication. Perhaps this device could be used by communication impaired individuals. This device is more or less one of two important halves of a personal invention I had posted on these forums several months ago: a device that enables one to communicate, two-way (the brain reader/translator is just one-way, external), with anyone else who also has the device, by way of exchanging symbolic representations of information that are associated with maps of neuron intensities.

A question I have about this new discovery, the answer to which would simplify the technology required to implement my personal invention, is whether whether a concept, for example, Pamela Anderson, would register in the same neurons across different individuals.
