Human sacrifice: Family in Maharashtra kills girl before a goddess, drinks her blood, 8 held

Amrawati/Yawatmal, Maharashtra, May 28: In a spine-chilling incident, the grandmother of a 10-year-old girl, along with family members, slit the throat of the victim, offered her to a goddess and then drank her blood as "prasad" (blessing) in Yawatmal district of Maharashtra.

Police on Monday arrested eight persons on charge of human sacrifice, and a court has sent them to police custody for a week. Two other accused are absconding.

The family members said, they had offered the human sacrifice in order to prevent "some bad omen" befalling the family.

Sapna Gopal Palaskar, the 10-year-old girl went missing while returning from school seven months ago. The matter was even raised in Maharashtra assembly and several social organisations had staged protests in Yawatmal.

On May 20, the bones, skull and blood-stained clothes of a girl were found from a bush in Choramba tehsil. After a DNA test was carried out, police identified Sapna, and then began interrogating the family. The grandmother broke down and narrated the gory incident.

Sapna's grandmother Yashodabai Pandurang Meshram revealed how her neighbour Durgabai Shirbhate had a dream in which a goddess appeared and demanded human sacrifice of the youngest girl in the household.

Family members Motiram MEshram, Manoj Atram, devidas Atram, Punjaji Atram, Shelki Buwa (the priest who carried out the sacrifice) and Yadav Tekan were arrested on Sunday night by plice.

Kadapa: In a case of suspected human sacrifice, a 25-year-old man was killed and his blood offered to a local deity by unidentified persons involved in search for hidden treasure troves.

The incident took place at Valasalapalem village of Atluru mandal in Kadapa district in the early hours of Tuesday. The man, who was identified as Ch Narasimhulu, had slept outside his house on Monday night and was found missing by his family on Tuesday morning.

The Chakan police on Sunday claimed to have cracked a case of ‘narbali’ or human sacrifice, with the arrest of a suspect for allegedly killing a man and his mother. The police said a ‘tantrik’ (godman) had told the suspect that if he kills a man and a woman, he would become a crorepati.

The police are now on the lookout for the tantrik.

The arrested person has been identified as Sunil Baban Pachange (28), who holds tabla classes in Mednakarwadi near Chakan. According to the Chakan police, Pachange, who stays at his uncle’s place at Bhujbal lane in Chakan, was acquainted with the victim Dhananjay Raju Jagtap (25) and his mother Durgabai, who were staying in the same area. Dhananjay’s father died a few years ago.

Senior police inspector Sushil Kadam of Chakan police station told dna, “A few days ago, Pachange met a godman in Chakan who told him if he kills a woman and a man, he would become a crorepati. The suspect then decided to kill Jagtap and his mother.”

Pachange hatched a plan and asked Jagtap to come with him for a job interview at Lonavla on April 18. “Pachange and Jagtap went to Lonavla on a bike on April 18. After reaching an isolated spot, the suspect strangulated Jagtap and assaulted him with a sharp-edged weapon. He dumped the body in Lonavla and returned to Chakan. In the evening, Durgabai asked Pachange about her son’s whereabouts. But he told her that he had got the job and would return after two days,” Kadam said.

Pachange searched for an isolated spot on Mumbai-Ahmednagar Road to kill Durgabai and found one at Sablewadi village. “On April 20, Pachange told Durgabai that her son was coming to Sablewadi area for some work and asked her to go with him to meet him. He took Durgabai on his bike to Sablewadi village. Once there, Pachange assaulted Durgabai on her neck with a sharp weapon and killed her. He then tied her hands and threw her into a well,” Kadam said.

The incident came to light on April 21, when the villagers of Sablewadi informed the Chakan police about the body of an unidentified woman floating in the well.

The Chakan police on Monday said the suspect in the human sacrifice case, Sunil Baban Pachange (28), is so “scared” of retribution that he is not revealing the name of the tantrik (godman) who advised him to murder two persons to become rich.

Pachange was arrested on Sunday for alleged involvement in killing Dhananjay Raju Jagtap (25) and his mother Durgabai (50). According to the police, Pachange had met a godman in Chakan who told him that if he kills a woman and a man he would become a crorepati.

Sub-inspector and investigating officer Kumar Kadam of Chakan police station told dna, “After the arrest, we questioned Pachange about the tantrik. However, he claimed he had done the murders on his own and there was no role of the tantrik, before breaking down. He is scared and is not revealing the identity of the tantrik. We have produced Pachange before the court and he has been remanded in police custody till May 24.”

The police said Pachange had performed on the tabla at various music programmes in Pune and won awards for excellence in tabla. Kadam said, “Pachange took on rent a flat in Medankarwadi near Chakan. He held tabla classes and was well-known for that. Pachange was staying in Bhujbal lane in Chakan. We came to know that he told people he would become a crorepati. He used to visit a temple every day in the nearby area.” Pachange’s father worked with the PWD, while his mother is a housewife. Pachange has not completed his secondary education.

Godmen seem to be causing lots of trouble out there in India.

The family had sacrificed their daughter to prevent something bad from happening. As if there's something worse than killing your own child.

Apparently there are satanic groups in the San Jacinto Valley in Southern California that sacrifice children under the age of one. I used to know several police on the local force that said they hated going on those calls and finding.... really bad things had happened.

Human sacrifice is everywhere across all ethnic groups and economic backgrounds. It always has been a part of what goes on in humanity since the beginning, and it will go on.

Insane! And some people think that some spells that call for killing a chicken is evil!
