Author Tom Clancy dies at 66

Ivan Held, the president of G. P. Putnam's Sons, his publisher, did not provide a cause of death, reports the New York Times.

The Baltimore Sun reports that Clancy died at Johns Hopkins after a "brief illness."

Damn, that's too bad...

He wrote one of my all-time favorite novels--Red Storm Rising.

The paperback was nearly 800 pages, but I read it in a single sitting.

I never read any of his books, but I really liked the first 3 film adaptions of Jack Ryan (The Hunt for Red October, Patriot Games and Clear And Present Danger) and the first 3 Splinter Cell games...

I was engaged by a couple of the early Clancy works, but their quality steadily diminished.

He also licensed his stuff to a lot of ghost writers.
Not a fan due to his Nippophobia in Debt of Honor.
The one good thing I could say about him is that although he was a die-hard Republican and conservative, he criticized both parties when he thought they were doing wrong.
