Can't Uncle Sugar do anything right? First it's the disaster with the shutdown, now it's (N)Obamacare. While Obamacare is a step in the right direction, it implementation , just like anything else the gummint touches, is a total disaster. Maybe we should turn our governance back to The British Crown, since the leaders of this country haven't been able to effectively lead this country since 1969, when Tricky Dick Nixon took over.

Obamacare was designed from the ground up to be a complete clusterbomb (why did you think Pelosi was so intent on "pass it before you read it"?), to make the 'Single Payer' system seem like a godsend solution. Once the government takes over all of Health Care you'll really see a bureaucratic SNAFU. Don't kid yourself, politicians never do anything for altruistic reasons - this is not about helping the poor - it's all about population control.

I'll second Willard. If socialism, which is the nationalization of industry and business, actually worked, the Khrushchev really would have buried us. Instead, socialism collapsed under its own inefficiency and inertia, the way Obamacare is doing.

The problem is that because of special interests, we now have a medical system nobody can afford. And taking our money from us at gunpoint will do nothing to solve this problem, which is exactly what Obamacare is.

The U.S. was grossly mismanaged under the Johnson administration which preceded the Nixon Administration. LBJ got 60,000 Americans killed in Viet Nam for no discernible gain.

Ruveyn, I have no argument with your statement that LBJ seriously mismanaged this country. But Nixon was just as bad about Vietnam. He promised to get the country out of the war before his first term was up, but didn't. He stayed in as long as he could get away with.

I was simply supplying some history that you omitted.

Wrong guy; it was Meistersinger. I'm just trying to be fair is all.

Ironically, Nixon would be considered a liberal today. He implemented wage and price controls with disastrous results; he also started the EPA and affirmative action. He was also for gun control and abortion. By today's standards, he would be more Democrat than Republican.

I am more than convinced now that Gore Vidal was right. The US is NOT a first world country. if anything, we are now a last world country.

I would agree with you that we are certainly headed in that direction. Why do you think that we were a Third World nation years ago? Have you ever visited a Third World nation?

It's not a bug! It's a feature! :P

We have a government which is capable, in a snit, of closing open-air monuments and taking the handles off of porta-potties. And now it seems they can't design a working website, something the geniuses who run my favorite bar mastered years ago. Yet people still think this bunch of Keystone Kops ought to run everybody's health care. I don't get it.

Nonsense. The U.S. leads the world in science patents.

Do not confuse the government with the people.

The government is run by Bribe Takers, Swindlers, Scoundrels, Short Sighted incompetents and generally base creatures. That is the government.

And who put these people there? We, the people. Remember the words of Walt Kelly's Pogo. We have met the enemy, and he is us!

^ But its a two-party system. I think most people vote against the candidate they don't want, rather than for the one they do.

I think you are spot-on. It's what I've heard described as voting for the lesser of two evils. The problem with voting for the lesser of two evils is that you are still supporting evil. We need to demand good for a change, with good being defined as our politicians representing our interests. What we have now is similar to the trial scene from the movie "Idiocracy", except that it's not parody.

The ACA was designed to limit the amount of federal involvement. It was structured with a state's rights mentality, in an attempt to minimize Republican opposition. The federal exchanges are here because the state governments did not want to deal with it, which increases the amount of federal involvement. It did raise the bar in regards to what the minimum acceptability for insurance providers, but the federal government is not taking over your healthcare (or even really involved from anything except an insurance standpoint).

The ACA is about access to health care, not health care itself.

As for the "population control" argument, that has been spewed out for so many different things it has almost no meaning. I still work with a handful of people (in a medical facility, no less) who believe that flu shots are really just a covert government test run with the intention of becoming an effective population control system. The same argument is used against abortion, separation of church and state, welfare and food assistance, Medicare and Medicaid, Social Security, military and defense spending, and military actions.

Sir, you are only fooling yourself if you think that Obamacare respects "states' rights" or anything else other than federal power. It is un-American for the government to demand that we buy a product as a condition of our existence. That is especially true as it is one more program that socks it hard to the young and poor, since, as is the case with Social Security, they will be subsidizing the old and rich. It is an injustice worthy of the communists, and has no place in this country.

The federal government needs to go the way of slavery.
