The Lufthansa heist was billed as the biggest cash robbery in United States history, and played a starring role in the 1990 movie “Goodfellas.” It remained unsolved for four decades, perhaps because those who might have known something kept turning up dead.

The character based on Jimmy Burke (played by Robert DeNiro) certainly went out of his way to make sure the participants didn't talk.
