http://www.kctv5.com/story/23899790/boy ... dley-purse - *sigh* Look, I am all for gender equality, but this is another thing that is unfair! I am the kind of person, personally who doesn't mind what kids do as far as such habits go (especially since I am seeing kids as young as 9 now doing things that go against their gender [even coming out of the closet, but that's another post altogether]). Live and let live, I say!

Well ... such a colorful purse being used to accessorize blue jeans and a grey hoodie must be some kind of crime against fashion.

Maybe he should've gone with a Versace ... ?

Nein! Dolce & Gabbana, Hal-lo!

Seriously though, this is Kansas that we're talking about here, Home of Fred Phelps, where people voted to teach Creationism in schools, and where about 10 or so years ago an 18 year old developmentally disabled boy was sentenced to serve about 10 years for performing oral sex on another developmentally disabled boy who was 14 years old. --Hardly surprising in that respect.

The people of Kansas don't seem to like the Westboro Baptist Church any more than the rest of us.

Yes, as far as I care, the WBC can go jump off a cliff like a bunch of lemmings.

Did you hear about their protest at a funeral in McAlester, Oklahoma in 2010?

When they got back to their van after the protest, they found that someone had sliced the tires on one side. They then drove slowly around McAlester to find someone who would fix the tires, but everyone refused to help (you can only extend hospitality so far). The Westboro Baptist Church members finally had to have it loaded on a truck and hauled to a Walmart in another town to get new tires.

Heres a story about the event: http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2010/11/15/fix-slashed-tires-antigay-protesters-report/.

I'm quite sure that this is true, but with the religous hyperbole of WBC aside, Kansas is still Jesusland, I think that the other examples of this that I have given back this up.

I'm no believer, but using derogatory ridicule like "Jesusland" is just as intolerant as anything the Westboro folks do.

Either you leave others to believe what they like as long as it makes them happy and isn't harming anyone, or you've become one of the haters.

In a soldier's stance, I aimed my hand
At the mongrel dogs who teach
Fearing not I'd become my enemy
In the instant that I preach

Wow. That's all I got to say. You've got to be real evil to not get service ANYWHERE.

The problem herein lies in the fact that the Religious Right has made a point of running roughshod over those who do not agree with their views, or are 'differant' as is the case of the kid that this thread is ultimately about. --I think it has been high time that they get a taste of deal in since I was a kid.

It may not be 'right' in the Judeo-Christian perspective, but it is an end result of the karma that they have created for themselves in running roughshod on others who do not feel as they do.

--Remember, one of the constant states of the human condition is conflict.

If a man carries a purse it's a murse. I don't see what's wrong with him carrying it,no different than a backpack, satchel, fanny pack,or briefcase. It's something to carry belongings in.

Yes, it looks mighty fine to me - colourful and practical. It's not as though he had a pearl-pink sequinned clutch bag!

He was not in trouble for carrying the purse.

He got into trouble for carrying it into an area where no students are allowed to carry purses, backpacks, or satchels.

When told to take it to his locker (all other students, male and female, had to put theirs in their lockers), he cursed at the vice principle.

THEN he was taken to the office and his mother was called.

If it had been a backpack, the same action would have been taken, but no publicity.
