http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nati ... s/3653279/ - However minor they may be, East coast earthquakes grab headlines, and as a West Coaster, I say "You guys are getting all worked up about an earthquake in the East? That's cute!"

A 3.5? That's adorable. It's like a real earthquake had a baby.

Around here, we don't even bother turning and saying to each other "feel that?" for anything less than a 5.0.

Yeah, that's not a big deal. Though smaller earthquakes are typically felt over a larger area in the east, if I'm not mistaken.

On the west coast, if one inch of snow falls on the ground, the cities come to a grinding halt. I guess to each his burdens.

Kinda puts things in perspective, as far as people on the east coast complaining about earthquakes. Though the one from 2011 scared me straight, considering I was sure that it was something else.

3.5? That's not an earthquake.

That's a bowel movement!

Quakes and Tsunamis vs Tornadoes & Hurricanes.

Considering the fact that a devastating quake is quite uncommon compared to tornadoes & hurricanes all the time (a few days ago, that was bad)I would think the west coast has it better.

We had one here that made the furniture move,I was looking at the headboard of a bed and it was slapping against the wall, like ghosts were having sex.All my dry wall is cracked, for awhile we were having numerous small quakes.
It won't be fun if the New Madrid fault goes. Most structures in that area are not earthquake resistant, lots of old brick buildings.

I spent years in California, Japan, Taiwan, and other parts of the Ring of Fire, yet the few noticeable quakes that I've experienced were right here in Ohio. One was in the middle of the night, with bookcases banging against the wall. My wife, who is British, woke up first and said "What's happening?" "Earthquake," I mumbled, as if it happened every day.

Don't very miniature-sized earthquakes happen on the east coast all the time?
