You will find traces of herpes on about 80% of humans on earth, so its not really something exciting, if they are on a public book.

if you read the article it states that it's merely a few microbes........not enough to infect someone, not even enough to be sure it wasn't mis-identified?

This reminds my of the old "Dice used in Dungeons & Dragons infected with HIV" myth. This was passed around by word-of-mouth before the Internet existed. It seems to have started with a bunch of old Christian prudes who were shocked and appalled that anyone would be interested in something that wasn't Bible-based.

I'm sure that somewhere, someone is pointing at a friend's cold-sore and saying, "I see you've read '50 Shades', haven't you? No use denying it; the truth is written all over your face ..."

How shall dices, used for roleplaying, be able to spread AIDS?

NOONE SHARES HIS ROLEPLAYING DICES! Everyone has his special lucky dices, that have been proven in 1000ends of throws to be the best dice of all that you own, but only as long as you never give it out of hand, because that will ruin the karma of the dice. FOREVER!! ! And because of you having achieved 3 dozens dices anyway, until you found your one and only lucky dice, if one of your gaming partners forgets his dices, you simply share one of your 3 dozend crappy dices with him. But never YOUR lucky dice.

So spreading AIDS by roleplaying dices is out of the described scientific reasons, simply impossible. ^^

Did they use a control set of other books to compare it too?

The average Holy Bible, Phone book, and Harry Potter novel, might have every kind of germ on it as well. And we do get sick from those books either.

GAMER: "Spreading AIDS through infected roleplaying dice is scientifically impossible."

FUNDIE: "This is G^D's judgment upon roleplayers who teach sorcery, violence, atheism, and homosexuality to unsuspecting children."

GAMER: "Evidence, please?"

FUNDIE: "You can't prove that it is false, so it must be true - G^D is the god of gaps."

GAMER: "Like the one between your ears!"

FUNDIE: "WAAAAAAAAAH! I'm being repressed! WAAAAAAAAAH!"

Could have been worst, the pages could have been stuck together.

I am a little confused by this. The Herpes virus (whichever one of the two it is) does not last long outside its host. From the article, it sounds like it detected a live strain with the cocaine. I would see if whatever was testing the pages was contaminated before reporting this to the public.

There were a great many rituals with the dice.
Everyone had "their" set, and nobody was allowed to touch them. And everybody had a set of sharable dice anyone could use. And everydone had their "hated dice" only used in the most extream circumstances.

When rolling up a character, everyone in our group would grab a hand full of 6 sided die and throw them all. Then you pick all the dice that landed 6 up, these were the lucky ones. You rolled a character using these die. And if one or two were not cooperating, you put them back in the dice bag and grabbed the two dice that turned up 5's on the first throw.

What? off topic, oh shhhhh...
