I have a feeling that we will be waiting a long time for the introduction of an openly Christian super-hero comic character. I take it we're not supposed to ask why.

Never seen an openly atheist superhero either.

Theology of any kind is rarely mentioned in comic books.

So basically all of Marvel's best known, most popular, heroes are Christian (or, in the case of teams, have a significant number of Christians).

C'mon now, I don't know much about comics, but even just by watching big-name superhero blockbuster movies, I can immediately think of two openly Christian superheroes.

Nightcrawler from the 2003 movie X-Men 2. He is a key character, and is portrayed as a "Christian monk" type character who gets his strength from praying.

Captain America from the 2012 movie The Avengers. When he meets someone claiming to be a god, he says something like "there's only one God, and He doesn't dress like that". Clearly he is supposed to be a good old-fashioned Protestant.

How do you know this? I must admit I hardly spend a lot of time reading comics. But I have never seen any mainstream comics that are anything other than strictly secular. I'm from Missouri; show me.

If this is the best you can do, I stand by my statements. Let me put it this way: If Marvel is as disrespectful of Islam as they are of Christian values, they will be living the way Rushdie, or those brave cartoonists who dared draw pictures of Mohammad do--in constant fear of assassination.
