Quote:
Monsanto’s about to celebrate their biggest coup ever, but we’ve got until the weekend to stop them.

The Trans-Pacific Partnership is a huge, ultra-secret deal among twelve major countries that would give corporations unprecedented power -allowing them to use new global tribunals to sue our governments for passing laws that protect us, but reduce their profits! This applies to everything from labeling GMO foods to protecting internet freedom. Wikileaks has broken the story and opposition is building fast, but the countries are rushing to ink the deal in 48 hours.

/.../

From the Avaaz newsletter:

Quote:
/.../

The leaked Trans-Pacific Partnership drafts read like an extended Christmas wish-list for big business -- it would set a global standard of businesses imposing their will on our governments through a system of opaque tribunals. Similar courts already let tobacco giant Philip Morris sue Australia over plans to strip logos from cigarette packages, and could give Monsanto the right to challenge labelling requirements for genetically engineered foods.

The talks for this deal are so secretive that not even our elected lawmakers know what’s in it -- just the negotiators and 600 corporate lobbyists. Only some vigilant independent watchdogs have been tracking the negotiations, but now leaked texts are out and have shocked politicians and citizens from Chile, New Zealand, and Australia. They are now urgently pushing back on the corporate bullying, but are up against the US who has made this it's #1 trade priority and is hellbent on pushing the TPP into place now before there is too much public scrutiny.

/.../

It can be easy to feel small in the face of big corporate forces with big bucks driving our governments. But people, not money, are the true source of their power. From internet censorship attempts in SOPA and PIPA to ACTA and last year’s CISPA, our movement has, time and again, proven that we can come together to protect our rights against corporate takeover. Let’s join together, once again, and bring our power to stop this unprecedented threat to our democracies.

Good. Spread it to others to see, as well. Everyone should post this on all forums they use.

I want to add two articles in Swedish about this, as well, since the Swedish media is VERY quiet about this, as well as most Swedish politicians.

TTIP väntas träda i kraft 2015.

Hmm, ok. Do I automatically hate all Americans, just because I disagree with the country's leaders? Why don't you change your question to "Why do you hate Sweden?" It is equally valid to ask. That, however, doesn't mean I hate all Swedes.

The votes have suddenly decreased from over 800000 to less than 5000... WTF? Has Avaaz been hacked?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=usH_ymrY4Ko

I just got this video moments ago and now I'm worried.
I don't want to be completely taken off guard to where it'll be too late. If I have to shut down my YouTube channel or delete every video I ever made, I want to do it at the first heads up so they don't have to come knocking at my door with legal bull(bleep), warrants, and other things. I'm stuck on what to do. If we lose, I'd at least want the warning so I can close at the right time instead of too late or too early, which if we win or anything, I won't look foolish closing my YouTube channel for nothing.

If any of this is futile; if they can track anything I've done on the web in the past few months or years and feel the need to police THAT much for everything I've watched on YouTube...even if I get arrested, how much of a security prison could I go to? Could I get a trial? Will the trial be fixed? Could I get off with a warning if I said the right words considering video game footage being free advertisement and not given so much a care by other corporations outside that industry? And I doubt video game corporations even knew or even supported the TPP.

This has been a (bleep) year for me and my family and all I want is for things to just NOT get worse anymore. Things have started to get a little better for my family but things around me personally have been getting a little worse. With my anxiety disorder, I get very stressed under pressure and this is very pressuring and I don't always make the best decisions under such pressure. I leave that to people who know better than I do because my thoughts are scrambled and I can't think.

Is "America" a bunch of greedy companies, focusing only on making as much money as possible, without caring for moral as long as it is legal?

I think not. We dont hate America or american products in general. When it comes to politics, then I personally think, that economy and companies, have become a too big impact on politics. So it seems to me that companies seem to control the government and by doing so the people. While from my oppinion it should be people, that should be controlling the government, and by doing so the companies.

Monsanto as example tried to get certain of their products on the european market. For doing so, there are rules. These rules are the same for every company, trying to sell a product in the european market. The reason why the failed doing so, is not because of them being an american company. Its because of them being a company, that failed to show a scientific proven research of their products, including benefits and disadvantages. Instead of scientific studies that were necessary for being allowed to sell prodcuts on european markets, they sended a bunch of CEO, running around Brussel, and trying to negotiate into EU-parlametariars, that these research were not necessary.

There are obejctives rules for how that research has to be done. So either they dont WANT to go into eruropean market, then THEY are to blame. Or the research, done under certain rules, simply shows a results, that they dont want to offer. Then its as well THEIR problem.

Its the same with flesh industry. You are absolutely free to send us good quality flesh, and our customers are willing to pay good prices for it, as they actually do. We have nothing against american flesh in general. But people dont want flesh of animals, that have been treated in high amounts with antiobotics, hormones, and been slaughtered under such bad hygienic conditions, that the flehs needs afterwards to be infected by ammoniak, chlor or knows hell what. Every steak of an good american farmer, will be highly appreciated and payed. As people do as example for argentinian flesh as well, when it comes from beefs, that are still herded on maws.

And the reason why our farmers, dont want Monsanto is not because of it being an american company, but because of it being an company, having caused american farmers tons of trouble. Which is pretty similar to the experiences of canadian farmers, after Monsanto were allowed to go there into market. So our farmers and farmers lobby are against them, and its not Monsanto, but our farmers that we trust more. And they trust your american farmers experiences with that company. If another worldwar starts or whatever, Monsanto will not care for me to get fed. Our farmers did so in the past, and will so in the future, if we stand together.

Welcome to global government folks. People say it's a "conspiracy theory" but it's not.
And it's a world government where the people have NO say whatsoever.
Expect this kind of stuff to get worse. Even if these treaties get shot down, corporations will just come back with even more insidious ones.

And two things to keep in mind, these corporations are not representative of what capitalism is.
And these corporations are not american, they have no loyalty to any nation. They see themselves as above national governments.

I wish I knew what to do, for the sake of humanity, these global corporations must be stopped.
This is the 4th Reich.

The signatures are almost there but I still have my serious doubts.

Fact 1: Obama was never on our side. People's Candidate? DON'T MAKE ME LAUGH!! !
Fact 2: He was built up with money and power from Wall Street making him a puppet of sorts.
Fact 3: He just wants to return the favor.

Any and all petitions, protests, and arguments can be ignored at this point. They don't care.

People will get sick and People will die (I think zombie apocalypses start with Genetically Modified Organism Food or maybe I'm watching way too many Dead Rising videos). Good medicine will be out of reach. IP rights will be forever held more tightly. The public domain will disappear. People will lose money, jobs, homes, etc. People will be arrested, sued, fined. Innovation will stifle. The internet will be hallowed out. The Earth will be desecrated at a much more faster alarming rate. People will open their eyes and turn away. The economy will crumble and businesses will fold one by one. Will they learn their lesson? Not really. Their logic is: if a method doesn't work, do it again harder.

The world is doomed.

I agree for the most part. I just try to shy away from the idea of complete doom. I'm holding out hope that eventually a strategy for dealing with these destructive super-governmental entities will be found. But I do think that things will have to get a lot worse before things get better. Many people just plain don't want to see the sad state of affairs the world is in right now. Either that or those who do see it just have no idea what to do, it's a situation that goes beyond "david and goliath". A worldwide revolution of sorts is eventually going to result (I hope).

Some day human history will look upon the 20th & 21st centuries as the darkest of ages.
