Famed Italian Conductor Claudio Abbado has died after a lengthy illness, presumably cancer. He was 80. Maestro Abbado was formerly Music Director of the Berlin Philharmonic and the Vienna Philarmonic. He is survived by his second wife and children.

I have a few of his performances. I liked his energetic version of the William tell overture.
