I have to wonder why the ducks just stood there and didn't move. They always move out of the way when there is a car coming or people so why not a mower?

I was driving once and I saw a squirrel in the road and it was running in circles. I expected it to run out of the way like they always do but it didn't and I didn't slow down in time to avoid running over it. I was going too fast (going the speed limit) to even stop or react to it and I felt a little bad about it but got over it. It's not like I did it on purpose because I wasn't trying to run over it. I wonder if the same thing happened with the guy who was mowing. Now I know how road kills happen.

He mowed them down with a BMW.They were used to hotel guests feeding them, like the Peabody ducks.Ive also had the bad luck of having an animal dart out in front of me and having no way to safely stop in time. But if I see a group of animals in the road,I'll stop or slow down and not just pile thru them.
One of the worst things I ever saw was some people in front of us ran over a little boys dog at the bus stop,it was a big dog, they had to have known. And they kept on driving. The little boy was standing there crying,we stopped and helped him get his dog off the road and tried to comfort him.
