U.S. studying possible rescue plans in case of crisis at Sochi Olympics

I'm thinking this is a disaster waiting to happen. Sochi is very isolated and surrounded by Islamic territories. One of the "black widow" terrorists is said to have breached the city's security. And then there's the whole homophobia issue.

MOSCOW — Russian President Vladimir Putin has offered new assurances to gay athletes and fans attending the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics next month. Yet he defended Russia’s anti-gay law by equating gays with pedophiles and said Russia needs to “cleanse” itself of homosexuality if it wants to increase its birth rate.

Not to mention the competition itself. I imagine all this is a distraction to the athletes.

On the upside, someone might take a shot at Putin.

I think it can often be a positive thing to have such focus on a region with 'out of touch' views rather than taking them away from it. Gives months and months of discussion on the subject to the world and a imagine many people will become educated on the subject through the games taking place there

I wonder if those cops in the photo who are obviously laughing after beating up that poor kid are required to take politeness classes, too.

I am concerned that Islamic extremists could potentially use this opportunity to launch a terrorist attack. The Boston bombers immigrated from Chechnya, an unstable area of Russia not far from Sochi.

Chinese islamists issued threatening videos prior to the Beijing Olympics, just saying. But I'm not denying the actual threat at hand.

I have officially given up giving a f*ck about the Olympic and Paralympics Games this time 'round.

I have stopped using my visa card, I have abandoned Coke products (holy crap, that's a long list), and McDonald's (hardly a great effort there), and I have told these IOC sponsors why.

I will not watch one minute of coverage, and I will tell our Olympic Broadcaster why.

All I can do is register my displeasure with my wallet.

IMO, I think the Russian government won't admit that they have the safety of athletes, spectators, and Russian citizens as a high priority.

But one man's trash, to be "swept up for the good of the world" is another man's persecuted victims. I guess the winner writes who was justly driven to extinction, and who were innocent victims. And even then, the victor is often guilt ridden after enough time has passed.

Hope to God that security is beefed up so that the Olympics are a fortress.

Russia has yet to show remorse for what they did to those poor Germans at Stalingrad.

Putin released a tape of a Saudi Prince Baldar? saying give us Syria, or I will have the Chechnaians who I fund attack the olympics.

The stage is set for a Ricin attack taking out the whole Olympic Village.

Then the Russians show a confession on TV, then take out Chechnaya, to Afganistan, and Arabia.

Like 911, there will be a cry for revenge, so Russia can claim that the Ricin came through Turkey, with governmnet support, then through Georgia, down the same trail the guns and explosives the Chechnayans have been using came.

My only hope is the Jamacian Bobsled Team is held up in London due to a problem with their luggage.

With all of the safe Ural Mountains, the Russians picked Sochi, in the heart of darkness.

Meanwhile, everyone is killing Team Saudi in Syria and Iraq.

Iraq is pounding Faluja In Anbar, Iran is backing the Kurds all along the Turk Border, and the Free Syrian Army has made a deal with Assad.

11,000 Al KIAda are trapped, cut off from supply, and the noose tightens.

There is nothing like a common enemy to unite people.

The US made a deal with Iran, so there will be no disruption of the flow of oil.

Islam is not a problem, Saudi Politics is the problem.

Iran, Iraq, The Kurds, want a pipeline to the Syrian coast. So did Arabia.

This is how that plays out.

I'm looking forward to the Olympics. I prefer it to the summer ones as I'm a big figure skating fan.

As for the politics side - EVERY country with enough history has sketchy pasts. Every country has 'dangers'. I think bringing up Russia's history is a bit silly.
