Could this happen in the U.S.? A lot of places in Europe I could foresee this happening, but I cannot imagine any city in the U>S being so selfless that this could happen. I am just waiting for the cries of "Socialism," to ring out.

Could this happen in the U.S.?

Probably not.

Maybe, but I don't care what they do over there.

I know I'm certainly not anywhere near that selfless and I don't plan on changing.

SOCIALISM!! !!
Happy now?

The times I have had to ride city bus I kinda enjoyed it. I enjoyed the cultural experience of being around so much diversity, other than days I had to use the bus for shopping, but just to library, or a movie or museum it was fine. Beat the expense of auto insurance, Gas and maintenance. I don't own a car now, but now I live in a town so small I can walk almost anywhere I need to go. But I understand your point.

Really bold of this city to do it. Or, we could use alternative-fuel cars. That'd work for me, too.

Haven't some other European cities already excluded private cars from their central areas? Of course, they still let in buses, ambulances, and delivery trucks. So aside from making life a little easier for cyclists I'm not sure what it really accomplishes.

It's a cool idea for a city.I don't think I'd like riding public transportation, when people sit next to you, sometimes their body touches yours.I'm sort of germaphobic in flu season when it comes to crowds of any kind.I don't want to be on a bus when someone that's viral sneezes.

I am sure the people who use the buses get to their destination faster than when the roads are clogged with drivers who only care about themselves and their own needs. The air quality has probably improved and it has to make it more cost efficient and time efficient for business and medical to not have to deal with all that congestion. . I wish we didn't live in such a selfish world. Like when I see people complain about speed laws and about slow traffic, I think of people who it wouldn't matter if the speed limit was 100, it wouldn't stop them from bitching, because to people like that it has nothing to do with speed and laws. Some people just cannot tolerate that anyone can be ahead of them at anything, and have no consideration for other human beings whatsoever.

Selfless? Where did Americans come from?
It was pretty much Europe wasn't it?

Why doesn't Europe only have one country covering the whole content? Is it because people have been so grabby about land and power and money that they kept breaking things up into countries or chopping chunks off of other people's countries so they can be where they can have it their own way?

Are Europeans so amazingly unselfish they've never in the last two thousand years had a single war? Being all grabby with everybody else's land and money and serfs?
In fact who was it that had all those damn serfs for thousands of years? Why were serfs so poor? Could it be selfish taxes?
America was a country for not even one hundred years before we outlawed 'surfdom.'

What about the Crusades? Wow nobody ever came back with any loot from those.
What about stomping other people's countries into dust and "colonizing" them? America never did that or we'd currently own what we've already won in battle - Europe.
Don't even get me started on Titles of Nobility. Hand-me-down social selfishness to the extreme. Have those ended yet?
Don't try to tell me that's only a select few, everyone who kowtows and brown-noses to the "nobility" is demonstrably voting to keep it that way.

Since when is unselfishness alone so wonderful or useful? If everyone on the planet burned all their money -that would be amazingly unselfish- would it in any way be useful? No, it would be devastating to the economy.
What if people stopped greedily buying things? That too would be devastating to the economy and billions would lose their jobs and starve to death.

So what's so awesome about the "unselfishness" of getting rid of cars, it's not about pollution really anymore, and in 20 years will be even less so. Besides it'll hit the economy and unless there are replacement personal transportation of equal speed and comfort and economy then it does nothing except chop away at personal freedoms and privacys and imprison people within their home city in an attempt to turn everyone into ants.
I wonder if it's an "American" that wants to selfishly control all these people-ants.

Why all this American hating, we're the same species, and therefore have the same behaviors, we come from exactly the same place as everyone else on the planet -Africa. More recently nearly completely from Europe, even if via Mexico.
What about the huge amount of resources and safety support America literally gives away around the entire planet?
That's not very f*cking selfish in my view.

Slandering American behavior is stereotyping, to a degree no less than that of the most militant racism. It propagates hate and death and destroys freedom via fear. It is the seed and trunk of terrorism.
Only humans can slander therefore it's only denigrating one's self to slander human behavior, that is self hate and self hate is crazy and needs therapy.

oh, can you say "touched a nerve?"

I understand that. I guess I am just in a unique position, being on disability, I can choose the times I ride the bus when I was in that situation. Learned the schedules and routines of the locals, and even then, when I was living in a city of 200,00 I could most of the time choose a time when there was almost no one on the bus but myself. I recognize that most people don't have that luxury and I certainly did not enjoy the times I did have to ride shoulder to shoulder with other human beings. Those would usually be the days I had Dr. appointments and had no choice. Now living in a town of 10,000 I can just ask whatever sister I am on speaking terms with if they would take me to appointment.

I am an American, with 11 years active duty, honorably discharged, probably, by the looks of your picture, if that is indeed you, before you were even born. Why is an American only permitted to see the good of America and overlook the bad, while only seeing the bad of other countries? I have earned my right to speak my mind(s)

^^^I live in a rural area so I have no option but to drive where I go.But I don't run to town for one item.I try to do as much as I can in one day to save gas.In the closest little city they have a cool little bus that looks like a trolley. It aggravates me that no one is ever on it.I wouldn't mind riding it if I lived in town.

The town I am in now does have a bus system that mainly caters to elderly and disabled but they charge $5.00 each way for those under 62. That can be expensive even in a small town. When I ;lived in the big city I paid only $22 a month for unlimited. I would like to see more people use it in the small town. I m sure the price would come down it it were more busy and they charged a more reasonable rate.

Are you quoting from Fox News? You seem like a neurotic jingoist. Yeah, I think your nerve has been struck, very predictably.
