A customer at Asda was charged £450.00 for a loaf of bread.

How did he not notice at the time? that's what I'd like to know.

Something similar happened to me once at a garden centre. I bought a plant priced at £4.99 but was charged £499 on my card. I noticed straight away though. The cashier had accidentally missed the decimal point when ringing the amount through the till so they reimbursed the money straight away.

We always check our receipts before leaving stores nowadays, especially at supermarkets. Sometimes we are charged for more items than we buy (i.e. the same item gets rung through more than once) or the price charged doesn't match the price shown in the shop. Another supermarket favourite is to have certain products on special offer but the discounted price isn't used at the check out - "Oops sorry, they must have forgotten to update the computer"... Yeah right. Surprising how many times this happens. Conversely it is extremely rare that shops make an error in our favour.

"Well, that costs more than what 2 months of grocery shopping normally cost... yeah, seems right."

I once almost made a sale come to over a million dollars by forgetting to press the category button on the cash register.

Either the cashier missed the decimal point, or that bread must be made of very fine ingredients.

It's the trouble with an automated world, everyone trust the computer. Scan the items, don't check the price, put your card in push the buttons and walk away. If he just briefly glanced he should be able to notice that was a massive number and then could have got the staff to sort it out. (Although it still bad that a big supermarket don't have a check system when they put in the price).

Well, you know these stores have a rather thin profit margin. They have to help things along as they can.

Those sandwiches Elvis bought in CO might've been 450£ though if you consider cost of the plane trip
