Egyptian judge sentences 529 persons to death for 1 death.

This judge is as mistaken as he can be. Fortunately, there's some reasonable chance his decision will be overturned on appeal.
A police officer was killed when people raider a police station. That was of course way wrong. So, it does bring up an ethical question. If 529 persons all participated in something really wrong and a person dies, how do we go about finding a good response?
And in this case, it looks like the sentence is also a squelch down of a rival political faction.
