don't they learn their stuff in their regular martial art class.

(Im current BJJ(jui jitsu),former kempo karate,former ''boxer'')

Of course the men's rights movement is going to be against defense classes for women - how else are their membership going to get sex? :P

To be fair, a womans only self defense class IS sexist... it's just not necessarily a bad thing.

Because very often they're there after having been raped or otherwise victimised by men, and don't want to be around any, thanks very much. They're there learning how to protect themselves from men.

Women are usually smaller than men, they need an advantage just in case they are attacked.
Do the MRA's think a woman is just suppose to lay down for a rapist?

I don't think this qualifies as sexist . . . teaching women self defense is different than teaching men. I don't think it's a case of sexism, just of practicality.

It's totally silly since there is a reason there are specific classes geared towards women (er physical strength difference, vaginal rape prevention, ect.)

MRAs and their ilk are a reason for women's self-defense classes.

They'd be on firmer ground if they argued the double standard, i.e. how a 'men only' self defense class would be received, but it would still be a fairly pointless exercise.

I agree. I think the whole thing is backlash. I don't have a problem with men only things or women only things, and I think only insecure whiney people would.

As for self defense, most martial arts classes are co-ed from what I've seen. I'm not that big on martial arts though, because I've seen for myself that it doesn't really work unless you are some kind of Chuck Norris level, unless the person you are fighting restricts themselves to only martial arts moves. Really.

most women only self defense class aren't very good.
they are usually teach by frauds looking for money.

martial art is a lifetime thing, you can't take
one class, and be an fighting expert.

Ladies, forget these idiotic women self defense class,
actual join a BJJ,judo,wrestling,mma school(them styles
are best for women) if you want to defend yourself

Honestly, self defense classes are fine, but if someone wanted to rape me they wouldn't have much trouble. I'm not that strong and bluster only goes so far. I find the best defense is to not put yourself in a position of danger.

Absolute rubbish!

The best self defense classes are mixed because then someone can gain real experience of what it's like fighting off a member of the opposite sex. Five or six years ago I gave a class at a local gym for the members and although there were lots of women a few guys also turned up and we had good fun.
