..And already I have seen two cable news channels trying to make this story the basis to stop the legalization of marijuana.

Sounds like there must have been some PCP or something mixed in with his weed. :O

Oh, I saw the story on teevee and researched it not realizing all these stories are from last year. There was more than one incident. I guess I was not paying full attention to the specifics of what I saw on TV. Maybe they were talking about old news since no catastrophes to report on lately.

I think I have seen aliens before when I was smoking weed, but I didn't shoot at them...I don't think so anyway. That stuff tends to fuzzy up your memory.

The fact that the guy was high wasn't the problem.
It's the easy access to lethal weaponry that caused the issue.

I will now sit back and await the flames..

Remember this one? And in the state that just passed the "guns everywhere law."

How many people have been shot by friends and loved ones where alcohol is involved?

too many

Stuck away in CDC statistics on microfiche and in PDF too small for my eyeballs to see, but statistics exist. Of course there are groups that do not want us to know about statistics like those.

The point is that every time someone is shot, on purpose or by accident & regardless of the substances involved, the fact is that without the guns it couldn't happen at all, no matter how intoxicated someone is.
There's really no disputing that fact.

Well, what the bullet fetishists say is true, to an extent. If they didn't have guns they would just use something else. It just wouldn't be quite as effective, and there would not be mass murders committed by one individual. There are more suicides than homicides with guns. That statistic would certainly decrease. No matter, you will never convince those who have their heads covered in bubble wrap.

Careful, you may have just brought down the wrath of certain gun worshiping WP members simply by speaking the truth.

I have learned to dissociate myself from posts that attract the right wing gang bang as soon as I make my point. Waste of time arguing with stones. Conservatives have an instinctive aversion to facts and I have an aversion to the redundancy of scripted BS. I can go to Fox News or Breitbart or even Drudge and predict, almost word for word, the response I will get to any post on any of these topics, before they will b written in here.

What a profound and well thought out observation, just like there's no disputing the fact that if we didn't have cars, no one would ever get run over, or if no one owned swimming pools people wouldn't drown in them. Clearly, murder is impossible without a gun, as the millenia of peaceful coexistence and harmony that lasted until the invention of firearms can attest to... Oh wait.

Well, crime may not have been nearly to the extent it is now prior to the availability of guns... :?

Look! It's the CAR talking point! Yay! I love this old BS canard.

1. Guns are WEAPONS DESIGNED TO KILL. That's all they're made for, to kill. They're continually being redesigned to kill more accurately, quickly, and at longer range. They're KILLING MACHINES.
2. Cars are TRANSPORTATION DEVICES. They're made to help people move quickly from oone place to another. They're specifically designed & continuouslly redesigned to reduce the risks associated with their use.
3. If someone points a gun at me and shoots, there's nothing I can do but hope they're a bad shot or I get lucky. You can't dodge a bullet. You can't run from one. They point & shoot, you die. It's that simple.
4. If someone tried to run me over with a car I can get out of the way, dodge, turn around & go the other way, jump a wall or fence, etc. That's because unlike guns, they're not designed to be effective killing machines.

Tell you what though. I'd be willing to get rid of every single car in this country if we did the same with all the guns.
I love my car. I have flat feet & bad knees, and walking a lot hurts no matter what I do.
Still, to get rid of the hundreds of millions of machines in this country whose sole design goal is to give people the ability to kill more quickly, easily, and efficiently, I'd give it up and deal with the pain.

Comparing devices designed to kill & which in fact are quite effective in doing so with transportation devices which would be ridiculously inefficient in comparison for that purpose is a ridiculous, intellectually dishonest comparison meant to distract from the fact that it's easier in many places in this country to buy a gun, a machine designed only to kill and nothing else, than to buy a pack of smokes or a beer.

Murder is as old as life itself.
A huge amount of people having massive numbers of machines which are in fact designed to allow individuals to do it to anyone with no defense or escape possible at a moment's notice, with no warning and on a mass scale is a completely modern phenomenon.
I could drive to a gun show, buy a gun, load it, conceal it, walk up to anyone I didn't like, pull it from hiding and be sure of killing them and likely others as well if I were so inclined.
ANYONE could do this.
Many have.

People try that crap with knives, and sometimes someone dies, but usually it's just injuries, not deaths, because they're not actually designed to be lethal killing machines.
With guns, people always die, because they've been designed to kill and they do so extremely well.
....and I've never even HEARD of anyone foollish enough to try to kill a bunch of people with a car. Know why? 'cause they'd just get out of the way. But hey, show me an article on a mass ramming (or drowning) that killed a bunch of school kids, or the one where the 5-year old ran over (or drowned) a 7 year old at a birthday party accidentally...

Not only are your points obviously wrong, they show a clear intent to deceive by conflating hundreds of millions of precision-engineered killing machines which are used deliberately and extremely effectively to easily to kill and against which if taken by surprise there is no defense and a nearly 100% fatality rate, with the fact that the world is dangerous and sometimes people die by accident.

Yes, people die by accident.
However it happens more when there are machines designed specifically to cause death around.
Why? Because accidents with machines engineered to perfection to kill are simply more likely to do so.
Shocker.

Yes, people are murdered.
More people are murdered when there are easily available killing machines around.
It's not impossible to kill someone with a knife, but it's not particularly easy either.
With a gun, on the other hand, get a few feet away, point and pull and a person is dead. Point & pull again, and down goes another, and so on.
Kids with guns shoot up schools and there are double digits of dead kids.
Kids with knives start stabbing in schools, and no one dies.

Tell me again how guns are no more lethal than knives, cars, and swimming pools.
However, I thank you for your extremely practical examples of false equivalencies, intellectual dishonesty, disingenousness, and ignorance for all to see so clearly.

The next time a toddler accidentally picks up a swimming pool and drowns a sibling accross the yard with it, I'll be sure to issue a contrite apology & retraction. :P
