I thought that they discovered one a year ago or so.

It was 62 million miles from its star. Two thirds the distance between the Earth and the Sun, but this star was a bit dimmer than our sun so it canceled out to meaning that the planet got the same amount of sunshine we do.

Mightve been the same planet.

I think it only makes sense that there are other habitated planets in the universe. It's too big for there not to be.

I feel sorry for it,if we ever make it there,we'll trash the planet, like we did this one.

It absolutely makes sense in theory.

But 'other earths' are hard to detect.

With exoplanets were like that drunk guy that the policeman found pacing around under the street lamp in the middle of the night. The cop asked what he was doing. He replied "Im looking for my car keys. I think I lost 'em somewhere over there[ pointing off the road to a dark field]. The cop asked " then why arent looking for them over THERE?". He replied "because the light is better over here".

In the first few years after they accidently stumbled upon the first exoplanets in 1994 they been finding only the planets they are easy to find. Which are extremely big planets that are extremely close to the parent star: "hot jupiters"- Jupiter like planets closer than mercury to their star. Finding small things at a moderate distance from the parent star (like earth) is a challenge that only now they are starting to master.

It would be neat if our civilization lasts long enough to discover such things.

And in their news: Kepler-186f-like planet found orbiting in habitable zone 500 light years away. Dominant life form discovered but not yet proven to be intelligent.

I thought that the Kepler probe discovered many candidates of planets that could be Earth-like.

earth II is waiting for us to develop warp drive. it will be waiting a long time yet. if we ever do, it will not be another discovery of civilization but an elites' escape hatch for an earth that we fouled beyond livability.
